KOF XIII Hits consoles in the US today

I got super saver shipping on it so it'll be a few days before I get it. But who has it now and what do you think?

Better than the halfassery of KOF XII?

KOF XIII Hits Europe Friday and Japan in 1 week

 

It can't be worse than XII. I have my doubts about anything the current SNK makes, though.

 

I'm hearing good things

 

Hmm, just watched a couple of vids of the console version in action and it looks quite nice but I'm not exactly over-awed at the character roster.

 

It has Mai, Flames Iori and K' more than enough for me.

 

Will try to beat Arkham City over Thanksgiving break and then get KOF. I feel guilty having bought so many games recently and havent beat a single one.

 

I got it and must say it's actually quite good. Backgrounds are well detailed and its good old classic fighting and unlike xii this is a more complete game, even arcade mode has story element with conversations between each round(There is also a seprate store mode that goes into more detailed story but haven't touched it yet). I haven't tried the online or other modes yet. But a good games so far and the soundtrack from atlus is a nice touch.

 

I miss the huge ass sprites from XII but WOW as far as Saga ending KOFs this is the best.The Final Boss isn't even a bitch and it's as Epic as 97, and 01 were.

So what will KOF XIV be? New Saga or dreammatch?

My only complaints are the removal of the zoom and the completely forgettable backgrounds and BGM.

The backgrounds are lavishly animated and the music isn't bad, it's just both elements are completely forgettable. I really don't understand why SNKP is digging really, REALLY deep with the 20 year old stuff for fanservice (and succeeding tremendously) yet didn't bother to redo any of the awesome BG's or tunes from the past years. Seems like both SNK and Capcom have this train of thought that they can just throw these two elements away from such memorable characters.

Other than that small tiny complaint, I was completely floored by how fucking awesome this game is. Reverting to characters and costumes we haven't seen in 20 years, spectacular animation and fighting system, I can see myself playing this for years and years to come. Raiden, Hwa Jai, and now Mr. Karate DLC... if SNKP folds tomorrow I will gladly accept this as their fitting swansong.

If they could patch it to include the zoom, give me a few more redone backgrounds or BGM's as DLC and I'll be in heaven.

 

Yeah that's one thing about XII I miss is the zoom the sprites in XII were freaking huge and gorgous and while they're good in XIII they don't look as good zoomed out. I disagree about the music I think the music is well done enough, I have the 94 woman's team theme stuck in my head.

Minor roster complaints I'd rather see Tizoc/Griffon instead of Raiden and ANYONE but Chin I hate Chin I've always found him to be the most useless character ever. I would have liked characters like Malin, Eiji and Jenet to have returned too OH and Mary. But over all it's a great roster. I also think this is a more technically sound KOF than past SNK Fighters.

 

It's not that I think the music is crap, but when you see how they went totally all out with fanservice and going back to their roots with the characters (and a select few backgrounds) I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with the soundtrack. It's not like the company themselves doesn't know fans enjoy a lot of the older tracks, hell they included a 4 CD soundtrack billed as "The King of Soundtracks". Yet they felt the need to ignore almost all of them and give some competent but nothing nearly endearing as that in the actual game.

Raiden and Hwa Jai were big selling points for me. Raiden has been turned into a monster not seen since FF1 and I really like it. I second your opinion though, I would had like to seen Tizoc as a counterpart to him. Being that virtually every character looks like a complete badass, I'd love to see what their interpretation of Geese (or even young Geese), Rugal, or maybe Grant would look like.

 

And the King of Soundtracks is pretty awesome and I think the first time the West has gotten a Proper KOF Soundtrack (Japan has them up the ass)

Tizoc DOES have a cameo in story mode (Pretty early on too) though. Maybe we'll get Rugal in KOF XIV if they do the Saga is over, time for a dream match thing they do.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, Put Rock in KOF Already...or make a new Garou with KOF XII's graphical style (IE Huge ass sprites)

 

Another character roster note, I was really glad we returned mostly to concepts from '94-'98 where you've basically just got a bunch of badasses and not a bunch of children, loli's, or alien genetic robotic hybric low-rent sci-fi shit. The first few KoF's were just the baddest assholes in the SNK universes beating the shit out of each other; then everything just kinda went downhill and we get shit like Bao, Foxy, Hinako and other throwaway shit.

 

Unfortunately, we still have Ash Crimson, the worst character ever. At least there's no K'.

XIII is actually looking pretty promising, just wish I could get the version with the soundtrack from somewhere, since they DID release that in Europe.

 

There's still Kula.

I swear Ash looks almost exactly like pre dugged out Lindsay Lohan. But as a character I don't mind using him.

Maybe, but he's not an evil clone of the protagonist who wants to discover his mysteeerious past (yawn). In fact, Iori is pretty awesome.

playwise is my fave character along with terry, kyo and Yashiro...
