I was scanning through some of my old mags when I came across these very good and probably the best pictures of the pre 1990's Konix Multi System on the net. Enjoy :smt023 These picturtes were taken with a digital camera so I'm sorry about the not so sharp quality.

Weird, I have a PC race controller that really looks like this thing on this pic...too bad it is on my parent's house.

If anyone is familiar with Jeff Minter's work, he actually began work on a few games for the Konix Multisystem. Early issues of EGM magazine also had a short feature on the system as well as a few screenshots of games...a Mutant Camels game, a motorcycle racing game, and Last Ninja.

Also, I recall that Konix did actually make PC peripherals later on before they closed up, which may explain Profund's statement.

Those game screens actually don't look half bad :smt023

Indeed. I am surprised that I hadnt heard of this thing before.
Does it happen to have any connection with that power chair console that was prototype'd by the Jaguars designers? (might have several things mixed up here)

EDIT: Nevermind, it says "Flare" in the text (the name of the Jaguar prototype). Too bad my French has degraded a lot over the past 2 years :Hangman:

  8. Not sure which is the funkiest - Jeff Minter's hair n' beard, or that zappergun he's holding. :smt043

But what about the joypad? We've got a steering wheel and zapper, but surely there must have been a joypad too? Bet that's super funky as well...

That centre slot is for the games, i assume.. :smt017

I've got a few issues of C+VG and TGM of the time with more pics of the console. TGM even reviewed a finished port of Hammerfist for the machine.

I don't recall ever seeing pics of the finished joystick/joypad. Part of the Konix strategy was to make the console unit highly modular...we've all seen the handlebars attachment, but apparently there was a steering wheel (complete with guages) as well. The console (which looks like a toilet seat) was to slide into the steering mechanism, much like that fabled SuperGrafx attachment that never saw light of day.

They had some pretty lofty ideas for the Konix. Shame it never saw commercial release.
Also, oddly enough, Jeff Minter seems to always pick the most obscure or "dying" hardware. He coded for the Atari Panther (which was canned in favor of the Jag). He coded for the Konix. He coded for the NUON.

...and now he's coding for the Gamecube. Fear for Nintendo.

There was indeed a controller built that looked like it. Far as I remember, it was based on the prototype mould... then the company just make some wheels or whatever based on those moulds when they scrapped it.

    That's the one!

Do you have the pedals? Does it go into the 3 modes properly?

So that controller in the pics that Profund posted is the PC controller (ie: not a Konix Multisystem proto)?

That's pretty sweet! How much did you pay and are they hard to come by?

    Yes and yes. :p

Yeah, it's a PC controller. I don't remember how much was the price...but it wasn't so expensive (or I would'nt buy it ehhe).
This was about 5 years ago, never saw it for sale again since then...

They're scarce, but not too hard to come by.

Nice item to have though! Well done ;)
