Hello! I recently acquired a Korean import PlayStation 1 console, it's essentially a modified NTSC-J SCPH-9000 but was imported to South Korea through a company called "Tomato Club". The only real difference is the power supply is dual voltage rated 110v - 220v and the underside has a Korean style sticker rather than our standard Sony SCPH stickers. It is coded as a SCPH-9000 on the underside. I opened it up as I was curious as to what power supply was fitted to the unit to allow it to run on both 110v and 220v but upon inspection it is the stock 100v Japanese rated PSU part number: 1-468-366-11. After comparing the PSU to another Japanese 100v and PAL region 220v PSU the only modification I can see is the main filtering capacitor (C003) is identical in rating to the PAL region one at 400v 47uF. From what I can see all other components and capacitors on the Korean PSU are rated identical to the Japanese PSU besides the one capacitor. I've hooked this supply up to Australian 220v with no problem whatsoever, I haven't tried it on 110v yet though! My question after comparing the 3 PSU's is; can you modify a PS1 power supply to run on dual voltage simply by replacing the main large capacitor (C003) by uprating it to the 220v spec one? Basically swapping the 200v 100uF capacitor for the 400v 47uF one. I've noticed when too much power goes in these systems those caps go even before the fuses (fuses are 250v 1.6a PAL and 250v 2A Jap). Thanks for any information, I've added two photos as well of the board and sticker.
