Too lazy to make my own headline, here is the quote: "In an extraordinary public statement of regret and despair over having to postpone his company's PlayStation 3 debut in Europe and Australia until March, and to limit availability elsewhere to only 500,000 units come November, Sony Computer Entertainment President Ken Kutaragi is quoted by Reuters as having told reporters, 'If you asked me if Sony's strength in hardware was in decline, right now I guess I would have to say that might be true.'" http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/09/09/187223
How many tameshigiri-style head rollings take place now that Sony has finally opened their eyes and admitted (pretty much) that they've fucked up something fierce?
Seppuku, seppuku, seppuku, seppuku! beside jokes i guess they have just realized they're surrendering 40% of the world market in not coming out in europe and will have great problems with so few machines at launch.....
Well the playstation was pretty much made with the intent of taking revenge on nintendo after they backed out of the deal. I think they reached a point where they pretty much realized their screwed to an extent. Sony probably thought that the hardware was going to be easy to make and felt since they were going to release their console later they would prevent the shortage mistake microsoft had and everything would fall into place. Of course they soon discovered that blu ray is more diffcult to pull of then theyd imagine. For ken kutargi to make a statement like this is very bold coming from a man who felt that the issues people were having with psp were due to the way they were handling the machine. I almost feel that this is sort a slight apology and admiting that they are currently weak.
:clap:Krazy Ken Kutaragi (KKK) just realized that manufacturing always takes longer than you planned. Better late than never Ken.
Well it had to end someday... If you look it this way Sony has the record of being the market leader for the longest time. Everybody remembers the days of Nintendo and SEGA yet those two were up there only once each. Anyway, I'm kinda worried since we know if sony falls MS will take everything, like they did with the PC market. On the other hand theres the possibility that Wii wins, but seriously, dont you guys remember the ninty monopoly of the 80s? do you want that again? Unless another player enters the game (samsung?) then I see things getting pretty bad in the near future...
LG+Samsung should do the trick, but behind it all it's always NEC Seriously however, as bad as SONY might do, there won't be a Nintendo-style monopoly as there was back in the day, simply because the playstation brand has ran so deep inside people's houses all over the world. Sooner or later, PS3's price is bound to go down, and then people will receive, as they ve always done.
I doubt that: after the TG16 any internal projects for a console are prone to be rejected by the board and the stock holders. Dunno, maybe, MAYBE a Nec portable but a whole console? I really doubt that...
I meant that behind most japanese console hardware, NEC plays an important role in the components within them, so indirectly, NEC is always in the game.
Well then we could say the same about IBM (CPU) ATI, nVidia (GPU) and even Samsung (memory). But waht I meant was a samsung-brand console.
I guess the ill-fated SAMSUNG NUON was a failed attempt of Samsung in the consoles market, so I don't think they d dare again just yet.
It was misquoted. Said Kutaragi: "If asked whether Sony's level of manufacturing technology declined, I have to admit it under the present circumstance. But Sony intends to prove its technical capabilities by manufacturing the necessary number of blue lasers from now on." He was talking about diodes.
Heh, that's one of japan's most lucrative genres. If the X360 was chock-full of those games since launch day it would be the hottest console in the land of the rising sun...
