My camera and tripod were taken from me two months ago.

I'm still dealing with this shock as the camera had finally paid itself off.

If anyone has old lenses lying around they would be greatly appreciated as all I can afford atm is
    a used camera body.

What mount? I might have something to just get you rolling again.

I work at a mom 'n pop camera store. Boxes and boxes of equipment.

    From my car :-(
It was full of irreplaceable baby pictures too.
They didn't take my gps for some reason.

Do they have any of these for sale? I have bought a Panasonic Lumix GH1, it's only 12mp
but it does 1080 video uncropped sensor. The only problem is I need lenses F2.5 or less = money

    • 14mm F2.5 Panasonic Pancake used or any micro 4/3 pancake
    • 28mm Vivitar F2.0 28x FD

    • 50mm SMC-M 1.7 Pentax
    • 50mm Canon F1.4 (second choice)
    • 85mm Samyang F1.4 Pentax

I should have bought camera insurance!

The new and shiny Lumix F1.7 pancake is something crazy like $400, and as the YT channel might make that in 12 months I have hard time justifying it.

If they have any real nice old glass

I had a camera stolen out of my car once... it was under a coat in the rear foot well, passenger side. Middle of the night, but in a well-lit parking lot. I was inside a bar, during a crazy snowstorm, for about 45 minutes and came back to find a lot of snow on the seat... which was confusing until I finally looked up and saw the window was missing. A lot of cars around me got hit, too. Doubt they lost anything as valuable though... :(

I definitely don't see much (if any) MFT stuff there... but I'll check anyway.

If you have a particular mount adapter I could ship you "a lens" just so you have -something- to use. As for specific models, unless we're lucky they'd probably cost about the same as you would find them elsewhere.

Olympus do a fantastic Mico Four Thirds lens called M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 45mm F1.8 that Martian here recommended. I bought a used one (still looks brand new in box) from Yahoo Auctions for 20'500yen for use on my GH2. That's a pretty good price but it is a fixed length so that may be of no use to you. I don't know how much you guys in the US pay for a good lens but over here 20'500 yen is a deal.

This is the actual lens I bought. (Picture taken from the auction)

There's a huge gap between what you can casually get in Japan vs even NYC.

Hmm, why not import then or would that be too expensive due to exchange rates? You could also check out the UK. The likes of Jessops have good lens kits that are often sold at a cheap price over there for not much more than what we pay in Japan plus the exchange rate should be better for you.

I might just stock up on my next trip to Japan and hand carry it back.

I envy that companies fully stock Japan before stocking other countries. It's impossible to get the GH3 here for less than a premium price.

Meanwhile in Japan, easy to get.

Here in the US everyone orders their stuff from B&H

Or those who don't mind paying a few extra bucks go to their local 'shop. But we can't always justify that.

I am trying to get the panasonic 20mm F1.7 lens.

Anyone have a better price than $179 by them?

Is camera stuff really that much cheaper in Japan?

I was going to get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 before I head over in May, but maybe I'll just buy it there... Hmm...

For you in Australia, probably not - you're right next door! All camera gear is made in Japan so naturally, it's cheaper there ;) That's why we have grey imports in the West.

Jessops went, yes. Didn't Peter Jones buy it as an online only company? To be fair, their prices hadn't been great for years, what with the Internet. I found them expensive and never bought from them. Maybe being online only, they'll compete with the likes of Wex now.

f/2.5 is an unusual aperture for a prime lens. Anyway, pro lenses are anything from f/2.8 across the range.

Would your car insurance not cover theft of property in the vehicle, Kev?

Think yourself lucky you're only having to spend $179. My next lens purchase will be £1,600!

Sounds like a fantastic price for that.

(assuming you haven't mistaken and actually mean the 14 2.5 which is, used, right at that price)

Yep, $179. Dollars is really cheap, especially if that's a new lens.

Why not just get a Lumix TZ-10? Great camera, what I use for my youtube videos. I think anything about that for YouTube is overkill, since it gets so heavily compressed. Unless you need it for other things.
