I came across this strange PAL-UK Version: Front: Back: Side: Inlay: Maybe someone has any Infos about this Version? Sadly that the Cover is already Fade .
Maybe you want some Background Informations: Im working on a Pal Sega Mega Drive Fullset. Only a fiew less titles to go.. and i buyed a whole lot from a Uk Seller as the most MD games arent that expensive over there..and this game was inside the box aswell.
There seem to have been two versions of the PAL cover art, if we take your's into account. http://segaretro.org/Lakers_versus_Celtics_and_the_NBA_Playoffs
hmm I think its a fake cover myself. Looks like someone just photo shopped the genesis cover to make it look like the EU release.
Yes i have seen this one before.. but this Looks like a Multi Language version. My Version is only in English. So i wonder whats this all about. Maybe someone here got some Background Informations? As it seems there was never a real Official Pal Release. Maybe it was planned to..
It has the same ISBN number and Barcode as the USA version http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Electronic_Arts_US_releases
yes youre right even cart seems to be the same as us. but has anyone the possbility to ask someone that knows sure about this Version if its fake or not? I checked the other games in the box meanwhile alot rental games in it. Maybe it was for rentalstores??
Here is a picture of the so called official pal release. The cart is the same as the US release just like every other EA game, but the manual and cover is different then the US release. What you have is the multi region cart, US manual and Fake cover.
OK do you have any proof that mine is a fake and the so called official pal not? Because im in contact with EA Germany now and they sad in the archive is nothing listed or anything left of a pal release. That would mean there was no pal release after all? And its confusing me that the ea cart inside is listed for pal games and not ntsc. Because i want to be 100% sure that its a fake or not as it seems like it would be a piece of history if its original. And i have a similaire sonic 2 game that comes with a genesis manual with the same sticker and a pal cover and from that i know 4 sure it was sold in that way. Really nobody here with real connections? Hope somene can help me out with facts... (sorry about my direct way, but i dont want the standard noob discussion its fake blabla, i only wana have facts..else i could post it outside of assembler. But i think my best chance for the truth lies on the hardcore members in here.)
How many other EU EA games got a UK only version? None, As far as I can tell they were all multi language cover and manuals.
Well...How many ea games wasnt released in europe?? I think this game is kinda special! And what about the game premium manager that was only released as a pal uk version? Dont missunderstand me im happy about youre inputs but your answers didnt have any real facts in it that would claim that this one is fake and the other not?
Hi. First post, but hopefully a useful one as I am the owner of the PAL Lakers Vs. Celtics game that has been pictued in this thread (it's taken from my Mega Drive album that I uploaded to www.retrocollect.com several years ago. At this point in time, there are FOUR known copies of this game to exist with a fifth with significant damage to the cover insert (the spine has a huge piece missing). There has been a lot of discussion about this game on the Retro Collect forums over the last few years since I posted the picture, with some consensus that the game was possibly a rental release in the United Kingdom, possibly explaining its scarcity. As with many Blockbuster exclusive N64 releases in the USA, it may be that this game was available for rental (quite a few collectors have said that they can remember renting it back in the day) but only the carts remain? This is only a theory of course, but one thing is for certain, Lakers Vs. Celtics and the NBA Playoffs PAL version is the rarest PAL Mega Drive release.
Well hello then! Thanks for youre time to register and post. Yeah like i sad i saw this version before but it looks different to mine. Anyone got an idea if there was several versions out?
Hi Hekel Well, your game does look interesting as your game is aesthetically a hybrid of the USA game and the UK/European version (of which there are only a few, but at least there is a consistency in what these look like). I guess my frst thought was, how long have you had it? If you have owned this for longer that the time the game was first pictured on Retro Collect to prove its existence, then this would add significant weight to your claims of another variant. I have had so many requests for me to make high quality scans of the insert and manual over the last three years and I am aware that two of the other owners of the other three complete games have also been requested to post high quallity scans on ther net (which would suggest that this would be with view to reproduction copies being made). I must confess that my immediate thought when I saw the cover to your game is that someone has seen been able to copy the spine of the UK/European version and put this over the USA front and rear insert, put the Mega Drive logo on the front section of the insert and then produce a high quality print. As I write this, the first picture of the UK/Euro PAL game to appear on the intenet was 950 days ago, so if you have owned your game for longer than this, then this would be very interesting to know and any cynicism I may have initially reserved for this variant would be less valid. Your manual looks interesting too as it is the USA manual but with a white rectangle across the bottom of the front cover with Mega Drive wrtitten on it. As you are no doubt aware, there are were a few Australia PAL Mega Drive games which were basically hybrids of the USA version with similar changes made to the covers (Dick Vitale's "Awesome Baby!" College Hoops is probably the best example of this), but I would suggest that if you have only owned your game for less than 950 days (as appears to be the case from your earlier posts), then the best way of knowing for sure if your game is a genuine release or not is to have the insert and manual dated by the age of the paper, analysis of the print quality or wait for other collectors to show their own version of the same exact version of the game that you have to confirm that it is a genuine PAL release. Although it is obviously nice to own a real PAL rarity, I was still very happy to see two more copies of the game appear over the next 12 months from me posting my picture from other Mega Drive collectors as this gave people (including those who may have previously questioned its existence) further evidence of the game being released in PAL format. There are other systems that have games for it that are also in very, very limited numbers (the 2600 VCS being a good example). The other barometer I would suggest you can use to gauge its genuinity is to see how many offers you get for your game in the coming year. I have had some truly eye-watering offers to get me to part with my game in the last few years since I posted that picture. It would be good to keep in contact about this - I'm interested to know aout your game if more emerge with the same cover and manual and I'm sure the three owners of the other games that are known to exist that have the same insert and manual as me would be similarly interested.
Well sadly to say i dont own it for 950 Days hehe like i sad i buyed a MD game lot from the uk and the game was inside.. but im pretty sure if the seller would know about this game, even if it would be a fake he would tryed to earn more Money than i payed. I contacted him to get more informations about the game lot ive got from him.. hope to recieve a answer soon. About the cover.. it Looks same like other mega drive games in compare *paper, Color etc* nothing strange on it so far. Its even labeled on the back side as: NBA is a registered blabla. Sega and Mega Drive are registered Trademarks of Sega Enterprises Ltd. Made in Taiwan for Electronic Arts. Printed in England. 1990 Electronic Arts... If someone really faked this one he made a good Job i guess? Because someone here before sad its a simple US Scan. But for me it doesnt Looks like. Sadly i dont know if some more where out there.. But i sended you a PM to stay in contact.
Can you post higher quality photos? I'm no authority on the subject and might be throwing a bone here, but is it possible this might be a prototype cover of some sort that didn't pass approval in the UK? If it's a fake someone's went to a lot of effort to mislead people into thinking it's a UK copy, perhaps far too much effort with little research went into it. I don't know, the chances of it being a fake seem kind of slim to me but you never know. Only other options are like mentioned above, an EU or AU copy. I'm curious and understand if people don't want to say, but what's the value on this UK game? I can't say I've ever known of it's existence let alone rarity.
Hey Geluda, Well yes i can post some better Pictures next week! Shouldnt be a Problem. The last ones was made with my iphone.. but i got a digital camera aswell. I hope it is not a fake. But like you sad its not impossible.. About youre prototype theory i dont know.. for me it seems more Logical that this was a rental only Version. Hard to set any Price on this Item as Long its not confirmed.. So far i have seen on ebay the other Versions like gunstarhero haves was sold for a high Price. But even on them its nearly impossible to say what theyre really worth.. depends on the Collector that wanna have this game i guess..
It's certainly a unique item that's for sure. It looks legit to me although it's hard to tell with the photos you have now. I guess you should play a game of spot the difference with the Genesis version and look for editing inconsistencies, things like discolouration and sloppy alignment are common mistakes made. So, do you believe that the few copies out there are retail copies and yours is a rental copy?
Well if this version was a rental only thing i guess theres some more out but i dont have a clue how many..about the game itself i never played the genesis version so i cant tell about ingame differences. I would need to dump the game and check with hex editor. But i believe its 1:1 the same build like ea games basicly are, but cant say 4 sure. I compared the cover once more with another ea game. Looks original to me. I still got the hope someone here haves some new informations likw gunstarhero.
