This could really stream line the process for me in building an emulator box. http://www.lakka.tv/ Has anybody tried this out? Will try it out? I'm thinking of getting this and then grabbing a Chromebox and instealling this over Chrome and BAM Emulator box. It seems to have great compatibility too although I don't see MAME on the list. http://www.lakka.tv/doc/Hardware-support/
I have tried this out using a Gigabyte Brix micro PC. It works well, but it is still pretty rough and lacking in fine polish.
Bummer it lacks MAME Support but FBA is a fine emulator for MOST of what I play. I can always get a Pi2 later and make a MAME machine out of that or even a used Ouya
The problem you might have is if you run this through a TV. Because of the way it syncs, especially in the UK with 50Hz TVs, non-PAL games running at 60Hz cause sync issues with the emulator and mess up the sounds and video. I have also encountered a few random crashes, but not very many. FBA emulation is a bit hit or miss, although that might be for similar reasons as above, or a bad ROM set. The emulator has some graphical issues too on certain games. The nice thing is Dual Shock 3/Sixaxis and XB360 controller support, although I have had issues with the Bluetooth and haven't got it working via that method yet, it only works with USB. That I suspect is support for the built in WiFi/Bluetooth controller on the Brix motherboard. Also you might have some issues with getting the sound to work - this was remedied by selecting a different sound emulation core for me instead of the default one.
Interesting, thanks for sharing! I am at the moment configuring Emulation Station + Libretro to use on my desktop PC (which sits in the living room close to the TV). This Linux distro looks to be a bit in its infancy still doesn't it? Anyway the idea behind it is very cool, and very handy.
If this Emulator doesn't quite work yet, I haven't the slightest idea what I'm going to use for my emulator box. Are there any other emulator OSes out there?
Any linux with a good emulator frontend would do it right? Those seem nice: http://emulationstation.org/ http://attractmode.org/index.html http://www.anti-particle.com/wahcade.shtml I can really vouch for the chromebox, jsut flash seabios on it and it's a wonderful machine for htpc, and emulators I'd guess. [EDIT] For those using a R-Pi: http://blog.petrockblock.com/retropie/
There is also Puppy Arcade (http://scottjarvis.com/page105.htm). It is not as streamlined as Lakka, but it is more sophisticated and has been in development longer.
In fact you interested me to the topic and I got emulationstation running on my Chromebox. I need to set it up with a controller but I'm impressed do far. I'm using retroarch (well, some of its cores) as the emulator.
