I was so surprised when I learned that Mario Kart Wii comes without LAN mode. Why Nintendo decided to not implement this feature in this version of Mario Kart ? Technical issue ? Useless feature ? I dont' understand the lacks of LAN mode on Wii version. If online mode is done, why Nintendo did not developed LAN mode based on a simple IP stack ? With a part of online mode (the network part) Nintendo could easily develop a simple LAN gaming option like Gamecube version. This option does not require more work or dificulties... Moreover, you cannot play online game with 2 or more Wii for simulate a kind of "fake" LAN using the same Internet connection. The WFC Nintendo login works fine, but it's impossible for you to join your friend's game room. Yet, Mario Kart DD had a LAN mode, I have played several times at 8 simultaneous players. LAN game mode is very funny and simple to setup. For me, the lack of LAN feature on Wii version is a terrible step back compare to GC version. especially when we look at the work done on online mode. Realy, I don't understand this choice... :-(
I'm also dissapointed by the lack of LAN support. They probally skipped the feature in fear of tunneling? So that players would play more with 3'rd party tunneling software then the official WFC route? Also they skipped out the 2P tournament mode! And WFC is only 2P max per console, if they did 4P it would be semi-okay for 'lan' simulations
I don't know... Tunneling can be done with online mode you can see this on old Phantasy Star online on Dreamcast and Gamecube... And why Nintendo would fear about Tuneling ? For example Warpipe has contributed to the succes of LAN mode of Mario Kart Double Dash. I mean, Nintendo don't loose money or something else with this mode. It is local, it don't change online results statistics or other records saved by WFC. On Mario Kart DS, your win and your loose points have a separate category : one for online play and other for local wfi. Why Nintendo did not make that on Wii version ? Yes, this is a point, but what is the reason ? Anyway, one day a guy will find a way to simulate WFC's servers. Nintendo has made the wrong choice. I wonder if network play optiions change with Nintendo's Wii LAN Adapter ?
I too was dissappointed with the lack of a lan mode, I played in a mario kart double dash with the LAN mode it was pretty fun.
the automatic mode means the kart power slides automatically. it has nothing to do with the transmission. don't play on automatic! it's a lot less fun imho.
Semi OT: How is this? How is online mode? I'm tempted to lift a Wii simply to play this. It's really the only game on the system that gets me hard.
You'd steal one to play a game? As for the other thing, I would see a doctor about that as that doesn't sound healthy. Back on topic... Why do Nintendo always do something and do something so messed up and idiotic just to annoy people? Multiplayer LAN would be fantastic but some idiot decided that online was the way forward... :/
I really wish it had LAN. Split screen just kills my eyes. I constantly fall off because I can't see anything. I guess you can do semi LAN but it has to be over WFC. Really sucks. Online is lag free from what I've played so far. I'd say it's a great single and multi game, dunno if it's my ideal Wii game but it's fun stuff. I've been playing it with friends all week.
because how many of us used the LAN function? raise of hands? How many broadband adaptors sold for the Gamecube? As far as Nintendo can tell; their market espceially now with it being so heavily influenced by casual gaming - would not use it.
Yeah, but we now have Wi-Fi built into our systems. We don't need the adapter now, so now we could actually use it.
I work in finance, even though I'm just the tech bitch: Lift = buy (Hit = sell). Wait until you get a kid running around the house.
