What's the largest possible hard drive for the PS2 for loading backups and homebrew? I've seen patches such as a 48bit LBA, which theoritically supports up to 144 petabytes, for HDLoader, but haven't found any posts online with someone using a hard drive larger than 500GBs. Does any know if a 2TB, or even a 3TB, would work with the PS2 either internal or external? Any insight would be great!
I have seen youtube videos and heard people from forums using 1 TB internal SATA drives but if the size exceeds that ulaunchelf and OPL Hdloader doesn't support hdd.
China has made a SATA network adapter, but for the cost I would just modify an official network adapter with an SATA to IDE adapater. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/2-5-3-5-sata-hdd-network-adapter-for-ps2-30000-50000-54329
This subject has been discussed in many threads both here and other places. You can fit a 3.5 inch one if you buy the one linked in the above post. Though it is the one without the ethernet port There are two kinds of these chinese adapters. One with the ethernet port and one without the ethernet port (just a hole in the place). The bad side is you can't know which one you get without looking at below the yellow sticker. My guess is they were first producing the ones with ethernet ports and then to cut the manufacturing costs they dropped it. It would be wiser to modify an official network adapter if you got the skills. Also stay away from the external hdd for ps2 if you value your gaming experience which i believe since you haven't moved on to current consoles and spending time in this forum.
Maximum size is 1TB. It's a SOFTWARE limitation so using anything larger than that will give you plenty ... Of headaches.
