I run a blog called the LaserActive Preservation Project (http://laseractive.wordpress.com), which I'm trying to make the definitive LaserActive center on the internet.

I came to ASSEMbler because I figured if anywhere, I'd find LaserActive collectors here (heck, you guys have a LaserActive icon, which is more than what I can say for anywhere else!) who may be interested (hopefully!) in helping out with the blog - that is, if you have a very rare LaserActive game, recording it and submitting it to the channel. I'm in the process of uploading the english version of Goku to Youtube as we speak, but there are still plenty of games that need searching down - 3D Virtual Australia, the Myst prototype, etc.

Also, I come with a question - I've been trying to get ahold of ASSEMblerEX himself because, in his Acclaim purchase, he found two LaserActive disc recorders (which even I had never seen) and a console proper. There's no proof ANYWHERE of Acclaim working on a LaserActive game, so this genuinely sparked my curiosity. Do you guys know anything about it?

    Thanks!

I own a LaserActive and a SegaPAC. The former refuses to display any video from Laserdiscs or MegaLD games and the latter is in need of a single capacitor to finish replacing them all.

Only game I have is Pyramid Patrol which is rather common. Plenty of corrupted black and white sprites there.

If it reads the game discs themselves fine, I don't think your laser is the problem. Probably a blown internal fuse, the units tend to do that and they're pretty much hard and fast on the board - no replacing them.

Genesis carts and SegaCD games play wonderfully. If I can't replace the fuses themselves I'll just solder a socket in there and pop in a new fuse after testing.

If you make that work, please divulge how - it would save a lot of units!

I have an NEC Laseractive and a NEC PC Engine pac, although this is currently on display in a museum exhibition. Currently no games but the only one I want costs a small fortune

Really? I wonder if he's got 3D Virtual Australia, that's one that has 0 footage on the internet.

Uhh... you mean the ICP-Nxx fuses? Of course you can replace them - why wouldn't you be able to? If you don't fix the fault that blew it in the first place, the replacement will blow, of course. Still... anything made by man can be fixed by man!

I dropped him a PM about it. Video footage of that game would be amazing, it's the only LaserActive game to my knowledge (other than the Myst prototype which is more or less a clone of SunSoft's cancelled Sega CD Myst) to have absolutely zero footage. Even Time Gal has some recording up, and that game is of legendary rarity...I've seen copies go for $1k+.

No response from him or Assembler yet...the latter, if you're reading this, check your messages. :p

To keep this bump relevant, here's something from my blog that I think you guys would find interesting: extensive information on a cancelled LaserActive game entitled Legacy.

Was presumably cancelled when support for the system was dropped in 1995, alongside four other games - Ozone (no info at this time, maybe a beta name for I Will?), UFO & ET (game by the Multimedia Creators Network, creators of Melon Brains/Goku/3D Museum, about aliens), Steel Driver (golf simulator), and Myst (aforementioned).

I'd love to get ahold of some broken LA units but I can't afford them. Barely could the one I have.

All I need are two 10uF 16v bipolar caps and I can test my 50% recapping effort on the PAC. Hoping it'll have some effect on Pyramid Patrol's sprite problems.

That it will. Any and all sprite inconsistencies in LaserActive games are caused by bad PAC caps 99% of the time, not an internal problem. It's bad LD video that indicates an internal issue.

Which NEC PAC games reached the US? A bit hard to find info about them, with I think like 3 titles.

Off the top of my head (I'd need to fact check):

    JB Harold: Manhattan Requiem
    Quiz Econosaurus
    Vajra
3D Museum (port of Mega LD)

are the only LD-ROM^2 titles to be released in North America. Keep in mind, however, that J.B. Harold - Blue Chicago Blues and Vajra 2 are in English despite their Japan-only release.

Update for you guys: something BIG coming down the pipes. Something... prototype. You may all be interested, and with my hint, you probably know what it is. I'll let you know when it's up.
