He was pissed because it's his choice what he chooses to do with his time. If you feel so strongly, learn how to do it yourself and do it. You should be thankful he's doing any of it, not complain he's not doing enough! Imagine if your demands just resulted in him doing nothing.... And based on his previous efforts it might even be open source, meaning less work for others to jump in and add more supported titles. But instead you risk losing it all, with your entitled attitude, pro job.
The difference between my pro job and your and his amateur job is simple: - amateur does "good enough", which is accurately described as "half-baked", - pro does (humanly) perfect. Sorry if I dismiss half-baked stuff, but I strongly believe that either you do full job from the start or you rather don't do it, because most of the time, everything from half-baked jobs will have to be redone, so in the end, no benefit at all. And because I don't want to take too much of your free time —nudge nudge—, a simple example: Zsnes is half-baked and Higan's SFC core is (humanly) perfect. Good luck with your life.
Half-assed job is better than nothing. LD do go bad over time although there's no real hard evidence on how long LD can last. However LD that are dual sided and had badly done adhesive will rot easily because aluminum layer reacts with air and loses reflectivity. I say go ahead, to hell with that porn hater and rip what you can. Better rips will come along eventually but right now we got nothing as far as preservation are.
About 10,000 years late to this thread, but let me give an update. I'll give it in point form for simplicity and brevity: 1. Thanks to very generous extended loans from a single individual, I have basically every non-porn MegaLD title sitting here waiting for me to properly rip. At this stage I'm not in need of donations from anyone else, I simply need to clear the stack that's here. 2. Through slow and painstaking probing of the hardware, I've reverse-engineered the operation of many of the registers for the custom MegaLD hardware, which is the info required to actually emulate this thing. Once my notes are complete enough and published, it'd be relatively easy to "bolt on" MegaLD support to an existing MegaCD emulator. The MegaLD hardware is simply a MegaCD compatible platform, plus an extra block of hardware registers for MegaLD control. 3. I've done literally nothing on this in the past year, because I've lacked the time to do it properly, and I'm not going to do it badly. It needs to be done once, and done right, especially with the ripping process, because some of these disks may never be in the hands of people who can dump them again (especially certain ones I have). The last 18 months have been totally insane for me, and there's been almost no free time for me to invest in anything. Things have turned a corner in the last month, and this project is up at the top of my list of things to clear. Hopefully later on this year will be when things actually happen. As for my selective nature of what I chose to rip, I'm well aware this won't be popular with everyone. I also simply don't care, like, at all. I've got a 5 year old son, a 3 year old son, and a 1 month old daughter. Every moment of my life I'm setting an example for them one way or the other, and I personally choose not to spend my evening ripping Japanese porn videos in the study. I place people, namely my wife, family, and frankly myself and my own feelings, so far above some ideal of digital preservation that it doesn't even rate. I'm in no way stopping anyone else from doing whatever they want to though.
