I have recently imported two CLD A100's from Japan and neither are reading discs. If an LD or CD is inserted, the disc is attached to the spool?, laser runs across the track, takes one look at the disc then goes back and the disc is dropped. Never gets to the point where the motor spins. Tray mechs work fine and I have opened both, cleaned the lasers and nothing mechanical appears to be broken internally. One was purchased as 'tested' and the other one was bought as junk but I only bought it for the Sega PAC plus it did have a CD jammed inside it. I am finding it a coincidence that they now both have the same fault, does anyone know what may be wrong with them? thanks.
That is an odd coincidence. Were they from different sellers? Have you tried different discs? Are you sure there isn't something wrong with the motor itself?
Yes they were from different sellers, and although they will have probably had a rough trip from Japan I can't see anything broken inside. Is there an easy way to test the motor? Tried different discs too, audio CD's, LD's and Mega CD's, all behave the same. One thing I did think of was the stepdown convertor I am using, I think its 120v 40w and it works with all my other Japanese consoles but maybe the laseractive requires more wattage? That would explain the coincidence but it does say 40w on the back though.
When you insert an LD, you say it does not spin? Does it sound like it is trying to position the LD, then fails, then gives up? I've seen quite a few where the loading mechanism gets dried out and does not lift the LD into position. It tries for a few seconds then just drops back down.
It lifts the discs ok then the laser goes across to the disc stops and goes back, at this point it drops the disc back onto the tray. Would a faulty laser cause these symptoms or should the disc still spin?
