I was reading today the wikipedia entry for Last Bronx and it says that there is a live action movie, straight to video production but hell i want to see it :p Does anybody have any kind of info to share?

I've always wanted to know more about that as well. From what I've been able to find out, the footage of Last Bronx included on Sega Flash Vol. 4 was actually taken from the motion capture "making of" documentary. An early Saturn prototype was known to feature characters going through commands in front of a basic wireframe stage, and because this video had similar sequences Sega Europe felt it suitable to borrow elements to demonstrate not only the arcade version, but how the then-upcoming console edition may look...

Also, didn't the game's opening theme (Jaggy Love by D'Secrets) receive a limited single CD release in Japan with some additional Last Bronx content? I'm sure there was an additional series of character radio drama albums as well - not to mention the massively expanded PlayStation 2 edition as part of the AGES 2500 budget range that included plenty of extras compared with the earlier Model 2, Saturn and PC versions. This may already be obvious to many of you here, but Japan doesn't half get all the good stuff compared with elsewhere!

On a related note, what were the PC and PS2 versions like? Were they based on the Model 2 version or the Saturn version? I'm guessing the Saturn version.

They were model 2 versions or at least the PS2 was. The PC version is basically like the saturn.

That's interesting. I think I read somewhere that the PS2 Sega AGES port of VF2 was based on the Saturn (or maybe PC) version of the game - meaning that it didn't have the 3D backgrounds. Do you know if that's true?

VF2 is also based upon the arcade game.

It really pissed me off the way Sega never brought these Sega Ages titles to their own Dreamcast while it was still a viable platform. Here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPUSTVd8Sw8 You can see in that video that it is clearly based upon the arcade game.

I've got the PC version here, it's the Expert-branded release in the single jewel case. It aggressively checks compatibility, which means I can't use the usual tricks to get it to install on my Windows 7 machine. I suppose I need to spin up a VM or something in order to play it, as I've never actually installed the game.

One of the reasons I picked it up was because I wanted to play with the texture substitution that made the PC version of Virtua Fighter so much fun to mess with.

I've been meaning to cap this movie for years now. Next time I get a chance to dig through storage (maybe this summer), I'll make it a point to pull it out along with my old VCR. The movie is quite terrible and highly recommended viewing for people that appreciate such travesties.

A few years ago I did some quick and dirty scans of the cover since a buddy didn't believe me that this thing existed (let alone that I had a copy):
    Front
    Back

Whenever I pull it back out, I'll clean the case up and get something more presentable scanned in. FWIW, I picked it up in a used video store in Japan sometime around 1998 for 1500yen.

    Oh hey, what's this?
    http://www.roushimsx.com/sa/LastBronx.avi

Perhaps you would like a preview!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRCwSOIXmpU

Mono sound (sorry!) and composite off of a VHS tape (eww!), but if anyone wants to donate an svhs player w/ stereo outputs in the name of preserving an embarrassing, unholy abortion of a video game movie, I'd be down for sitting through this one more time.

    Just one more time.

Wait until you see the music scenes. I've half a mind to upload one of those to YouTube while I'm at it.

Will update this post with a better scan of the cover sometime this weekend if anyone really wants it.

File this part under totally not work safe, but at the tail end of the tape is a preview for the most Japanese movie I've ever seen. Note: nudity and general insanity. Not in Last Bronx, unfortunately. The girls that played Lisa and Yoko were hella cute. I would not be surprised if they have since had a lengthy and generally unimpressive careers in pinku films following Last Bronx.

    edit 1 -
After the movie there's an interview with the game's producer
    http://www.roushimsx.com/sa/LastBronxInterview.avi

If someone wanted to take the time to subtitle that and upload it to YouTube, I'm sure there'd be a lot of people who'd appreciate it. Hell, if someone just wants to translate the script, I could time/apply the subtitles if you didn't want to deal with it. Lord knows I've been slacking on uploading new videos to YouTube over the last 3 years or so.

    edit 2 -
I decided to give YouTube a shot and uploaded the whole darn thing

So in case you're stuck at work and need something to brighten your day, you've got Soul Crew in your corner.

Just watched this and must say it's an absolute shocker. The special effects on the 'juggle' scene at 01:13:00 have to be seen to be believed

    Thanks for the share :) :) :)
