I finally played Last Hope today and boy didn't the pictures fool everyone to thinking it might be a good game. It played very much like an Amiga shooter but not quite as good as Project X, it was flawed in so many ways that playing it felt more a chore rather then a enjoyable game, power ups should move slower then your ship going backwards so you can dodge bullets and collect power up and explosions should not be the same colours as your bullets, it's like these people never seen or played a Japanese shooter... On the Neo Geo it is probably the worst shooter on the system. Before someone goes but it's homebrew it's really good, the fact that these guys sold it at a near commercial price, granted they may not get a lot of money for it but I am sure they are not selling it at a price that they are just breaking even and are enjoying the fruits of the profits. I do own unofficial games on consoles but at least they have the decency to chuck in some softcore hentai pictures to make up for the terrible games. I still maintain that most homebrew on consoles is pretty rubbish, which given that homebrew and doujinware are done very well on the PC (especially in Japan) is rather a mystery. Warning Forever would be a fantastic game on the Dreamcast and I would happily buy it.
You do know that there are a few doujin hentai Japanese games for the Dreamcast. They're pretty nice quality, easily as good as the Simple 2000 Adventure games. Yakumo
PC games are easier to code because you have the real deal high performance libraries (D3D, OpenGL etc) and development environment. Homebrew console games are usually not made with the official SDK, so rely on whatever is available. Older consoles also do not support higher level languages, so you really have to know your ASM and the hardware to get anything decent out of it.
Well like I said Although I do want to get some of the doujin DC hentai games. I know the PC has the various libraries and the like but still doesn't excuse the fact that anything newer then the PC Engine seems to be basically rubbish. GamesTM must have been taking a large bribe (or at least a free Ltd Ed version to stick on Ebay) to give the game 80%...
