Just read that the latest update for the Wii adds code for removing the Twilight Hack save file from the Wii. It also blocks the Freeloader disc and any Trucha signed discs. But acording to people it doesn't block the Homebrew Channel as of yet. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/June16_update http://hackmii.com/2008/06/june-16-wii-update/
http://hackmii.com/2008/06/june-16-wii-update/ Read the various updates, they have already figured out how to bypass Nintendo's new check and the Zelda exploit works again. They should be releasing the info soon. The freeloader discs still wont work, but if you do the Twilight Hack and Install the Homebrew Channel you get the Region Free program which loads import games as well via software.
Only that the reason we PALers all bought a Freeloader, Super Smash Bros. Melee, does not work with the Homebrew Channel and Gecko Region Free v1.5 (Patch and No Patch). The PS2 approach all over again, buy a console from each Region.
I kinda joined there too. Anyway, Europe doesn't really have to worry "yet". This system update is still US only "for now".
keep in mind that you can legitimately choose not to update . Games carrying a software update can be tricked into not installing the update as well through patching.
The Freeloader disc also has a feature to bypass the patcher/firmware check. [edit] Heh, seems like I missed the update being out for Europe as the Wii doesn't ask/want me to update upon launching the Shop Channel.
The update is avaible for the UK as I got a message from Nintendo informing me to update today. It also said save files may be deleted if they are detected to be modified. However I can still access the shop channel without updating, so I think the only reason fro this update was to remove the TP hack
So uhh...for now just basically install the homebrew channel THEN update. BIG WHOOP, not much of a hassle.
New version of the hack is now out that works with the new firmware. available here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack
