A bill allowing for the blocking and seizure of domains that offend
the music and movie lobbies may soon pass in the U.S.

This means if they take offense, the site will no longer resolve in
the U.S. and can be kept offline until a court ruling had been held.

While we do not have content about movies and music, I feel
this will be abused if it passes.

Therefore I am seeking relocation of the site outside of the U.S.

Anyone have any suggestions or know of registrars outside of
    U.S. influence?

oh this got me scared for a second. thought the site was going offline for the time being.
You will most likely need to find as host whos servers are in Asia, as they do not have very strict copyright laws if any.

What is it with the US and their fucking stupid net laws? My site is hosted in the US which if this law passes will probably be taken down if they do abuse the new law. While I don't offer any software downloads or movies and albums I do have the biggest Sega game video collection on the English language net outside of YouTube.

Fingers crossed nothing happens with this new law.

Really popular warez sites provide this as an agreement before people are allowed to sign up for the site. We could add somethin around this field.

Just an idea to protect us. but then again if it comes into place.. then doesnt matter.

Well, more bad news. I do believe out of the US hosting was discussed recently on the boards.

So what exactly do we host on here that could get the site kick offline?

Much of the development forum is based on proprietary knowledge,
no matter how old some of it is.

Except it's nothing but absolute bullshit that warez sites copy from each other, anyone with two brain cells would look up to see if this bill exists and it er doesn't. Anyway if a website is doing something illegal then a keep out sign is not going to stop the police or law enforcement agencies away, do you think the police going on a raid to someones house who has a sign saying "If you are a policeman then you may not enter this house as this would be trespass" is going to stop them?

Be interesting to see what this bill does as I can't see it making that much difference...

I'm not even sure it would take that much.

If the terminology is really "what offends", the mere existence of a place populated by people who seek to possess what game companies seek to deny would probably be sufficient for blockage and seizure.

    Definitely go offshore.

I think that they will only be able to stop the domain registrar from resolving the domain. The hosting would be unaffected.

So you could still access a 'siezed domain' if you know it's IP address?

Since when did America think it owned the internet?
The internet is about censorship free, and by the sounds of it, America is going to get raped one day, thinking it can just do anything it wants..

Why not implement a section which only a certain number of the members can see?

This would not hold up in court. Ergo, it is worthless.

Ah yes, this stupid law. They forgot one thing, it only does something for the domain name...but if you know the website IP address directly then the enforcement is worthless.
