The arcade machine bug has bitten again so I've been randomly looking at these new-fangled LCD cabinets. I've seen the Vewlix in several different colours including white/black, blue/black and the original one below. I know that there's different configurations of the cabinet but that's about all I know. The inevitable Vewlix clones have started to appear too, and they're 100% identical looking and probably quite dodgy.

I did come across this QQ Baby cabinet that looks quite nice. It's Taiwanese but definately not a clone, I'd be interested in seeing the build quality and the monitor in action.

Has anyone seen any other LCD cabinets?

But then there's the need for games that natively run on a 1280x768 display or at least VGA. Naomis spit out a VGA signal, but I'm sure none of the games are widescreen; they're all 4:3. The Taito Type X2 definately does 768p: that's what's in the Vewlix running SFIV, KoFXII, Battle Fantasia and BlazBlue.

Does anyone have any more information on arcade boards/systems with VGA output, and the supported resolutions please?

    VGA Output
    Sega - Naomi - VGA (640x480)
    Sega/Namco/Nintendo - Triforce - ?
    Sammy - Atomiswave - VGA
Examu - Ex Board - VGA, not sure if it does higher?
    Taito - Type X - VGA?
    Type X+
Type X2 - WXGA (1280x768), does it do lower?
    Namco - System 357 - PS3 based

All I can say is AVOID the clones. They are rubbish! I was meant to purchase 2 of the Vewlix clones from China this summer. I had a few friends view them on my behalf as I was unavailable and not one person thought they were any good.

Someone I know bought one, took it back to Switzerland and within 1 month he was selling it, despite adding genuine Vewlix plastic.

They fall apart very easily and are not built to the same standards.

My advice is spend the extra and get the genuine article.

Another LCD cabinet to consider is the Sega Lindbergh - the system is called exactly the same. I can put you in contact with a UK supplier who is currently selling an empty Lindy (as they are affectionately known) without the guts or screen for approx. £900 if I remember rightly. He has also tested mounting standard LCD screens and various gaming boards with great effect. The system is not as attractive as the Vewlix however.

This is not the guy I mean, but here is an image of the system. http://www.libertygames.co.uk/store...specialist_section/virtua-tennis-3-lindbergh/

On a side note, IC09 tried running a Taito X2 with BB and although it was "meant" to give correct aspect ratio, the Vewlix clone wouldn't be tempted, for love nor money to output properly and was reduced to a thin letterbox effect on the screen despite several goes. The guy trying to do it is a well respect monitor expert and he just gave up! Tested it on a mates genuine Vewlix and it outputs fine.

I've been recently running Taito X2 and SF4 via 29" CRT on a Naomi SD (but tested it on an Egret 3 before setting up network play) and the picture quality was superb. There is something to be said for a good old CRT monitor. Only got images of it running on an Egret 3 however, but same difference - still CRT.

Will get better images as these aren't showing CRT at it's best.

Is the image squeezed horizontally? Or does SFIV arcade have an alternate 4:3 mode?

There is a dip switch on the rear of the motherboard which you flick for either output to CRT or LCD. I never got the manual or anything for the motherboard at all, so cannot give you specific details. Perhaps another Taito board owner can confirm, but when I set the dip this was the output I got.

I just had to alter a pin cushion and height (slightly) and got what you see in the pictures.
