After looking everywhere for this kind of problem without finding anything I finally decided to ask about this because the problem is getting bigger.

About six months ago I noticed that a white, blurry line started to appear in the bottom of my LCD monitor, I didn't pay much attention since it wasn't big and you only could see it when there's a flat background and the color isn't too bright or too dark. But lately the line started to grow at the point it already reaches both edges of the screen, and now you can see it most of the time.

I took a photo with my phone so you can get an idea of how it looks like:

I bought this monitor about two years ago and I was thinking about changing it for a better one, but if this can be fixed I'd like to keep it and replace the CRT monitor from my sister's computer.

I got insane looking everywhere for this problem but I couldn't find anything about it, does anyone know anything about it and if it can be fixed?

    Thanks in advance

Looks like the result of pressure on the backside of the LCD, or a heating problem.
The iMac of a friend of mine had a similar issue, it was caused by the heat generated of some parts behind the LCD, which caused white outlining of those parts being imprinted on the LCD.
When the temperature got fixed, the lines eventually disappeared.

Thanks for the tip but heat and pressure don't seem to be problems for the monitor. It's well ventilated, the temperature seems normal and it doesn't have anything near that can make any pressure on it.

Does it look like a burn-in line? Any applications or games that have a line there that you use regularly? If that is not the case and the line keeps getting bigger, replace it.

Actually now that I check better it seems to be a burn-in line located exactly where the taskbar ends, which is really weird since supposedly LCD screens don't have that problem...

Many LCD screens (especially old/cheap ones) are as susceptible to burn-in as plasma. I think there are tools to fix it, 24 hours with a moving test pattern or whatever.

Well, this screen is old AND cheap, I think that explains it.

As soon as I have the time I'll leave it for a day or two with some moving stuff and see if it helps.

A couple of days of this in full screen will do the job, right? http://teamdead.net/gentoo/e-shrooms/

I've never gotten something like this to work on any damaged LCD, pixels or burn but it does work for some people.

I'd tape some black paper over the screen while this is running just so you don't go insane.:033:

You could try a totally grey or white image, it is said to fix these burn-in problems too.

My Dell 2405FPW (not cheap by a long shot as I paid $860 for it in 2006) has a burn in line on the right side due to over use by mIRC. The nick list on the right side of the screen gave it a faint, visible line.

I also had to play a number of games in 1600x1200 which gave it 2 lines where the black bars appeared on the left and right side. Not very obvious unless you know what you're looking for.
