Daishobu - okay -> (sounds to be more like a big fight). what you mean is "daijoubu"

Ganbate, there is no 'm' in japanese as is, you've gotta combinate it with a vocal (ma, mi, mu, me, mo).

And it should be as Yakumo sama said daijoubu (大丈夫 / だいじょうぶ).

Another thing that cracks me up of learning Japanese is that, if you ever asked me what are the vocals, instead of saying a e i o u I'd say a i u e o (Japanese order). It might be something minor but you won't get nice looks. :nod:

 

and here's the last correction to its perfection: it's "ganbatte"

 

I always though that it was 'ganbate', I hate this... "Slang"? used sometimes, like when some girl in manga says あたし instead of 私 it can be confusing.

Atashi is not slang. It's just a word used only by women and those who want/pretend to be one.

 

When preceeding a b or p, romanizing ん as "m" is fair game. Osaka's street signs say Namba instead of Nanba.

It's not really slang. And it's quite common.

 

Yeah my GF says atashi all the time.

Want to be confused - In Osaka Nihonbashi (normal reading) can be -

Nihombashi
nippombashi
nipponpashi
nippompashi

You are gonna have to spend a couple of years studying classical Japanese to find out why!

As for advice on learning Japanese - try grabbing a Japanese girlfriend. You may end up speaking like a girl but it is the cheapest way to go. And it gives you a proper incentive to learn. Nothing makes you try hard like a good old fashioned argument.

Oh and once you decide to get serious get a proper electronic dictionary.

AND don't waste more than 2 percent of your time learning how to write Kanji. My writing has actually got WORSE the more I live in Japan. And I have to write exams in Japanese at my uni.

And about the Atashi thing, it confuses me, as well as the un thing for saying yes also confused me.

 

that's may be because you can't find the un-thing in a book. if you live over here, you will heard it probably 100x more a day than any other agree-words

 

My textbook I've been using (Genki) actually mentions "un" and "uun."

Still trying to get over to Japan though so I don't have a classroom environment act as my only exposure to the language.

 

So did mine. Sounds like andoba might need different books, and a slightly more open mind. There are far more confusing things in the language than those mentioned. If you're thinking "why" all the time, you'll never learn it. You should be thinking "oh".
