    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where I could buy a replacement fan for my Xbox. I'm looking at buying a clear LED fan to replace the stock one already in there. I have found lots of tutorials online saying about replacing it with an 80MM one (this requires cutting into the case etc. to make it fit) that's not what I want though. I want to find somewhere to buy one that's the same size as the one already in there, just clear and has LEDs. I appreciate any help from you guys..

IIRC it's a 72mm fan, but finding one of those in an LED flavour might be a tad hard.

You're better off getting a somewhat-near-in-size fan and putting your own LEDs.

You'll have to cut a fan to size, including the Hard Disk caddie. It's a bit difficult, but it's possible.

I guess wiring your own LEDs is the best idea. You could just add LEDs along the Hard Disk and DVD-ROM caddies, it will make the sides glow and the back as well.

Ahhhh that's what I thought from what I was reading online..I'm trying to do all this without cutting anything from the Xbox rite now, at least until I get another Xbox to try it all on first :p. Adding LEDs around the hard drive and that sounds good though :). How do they get power? Is there a way to connect the LEDs to the Hard Drive power cable rather than soldering it to the motherboard or something?

You could wire it to any cable, even the DVD-ROM power cable etc. I'm not experienced with that so I can't help you on it sadly.

The red wire of the HDD power cable is +5V so a resistor and a couple of LEDs would make it an acceptable power source. You could also use the black wire of that same power plug as your ground.

Make sure you have a decent soldering iron because those wires are thick and take alot of heat for the solder to bond well. If you plan on mounting the LEDs directly on the HDD caddy this solution is OK. But I advise not taking power from the HDD connector if you plan to mount the LEDs on the motherboard of on the main case. Wires will be in your way everytime you'll want to remove the HDD caddy when you open up your Xbox.

If you're still interested in modding your fan you could take a peek at my thread: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...ct-A-worklog-and-reference-for-future-modders

There is a post where I explain how I did it.
