I can't seem to handle the new LED TVs that look like someone is recording with a camcorder. Does it bother anyone else? It sucks me out of the movie because my brain keeps seeing all of the little odd visuals. And anything with CGI next to a person looks corny. It's so clear that the props and the actor's clothes look fake to me. All of my friends seem to like it so many it's just me. I'm using plasma now and I love it, but I do miss the LED clarity of live sports sometimes.
I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about. What do you mean when you say they look like "someone is recording with a camcorder"? And what do you mean by "little odd visuals"? Do you mean artifacts? I have an LED-backlit computer monitor, and I think it looks great.
Ah, the issues with refresh rates. Have you seen The Hobbit in a theater supporting the 48fps enhanced rate? You'd probably see the same effect. Its just that whatever TV you had before only truly showed the 24fps that standard TV has, and now your new LED TV can enhance this to *something higher. EXACT same issue when I sent from a 37" 2006 to a 60" 2011. It wears off after a while, it all looks the same.
Personally, I cant stand it but I know a few people that dont even notice it or even like it. Ive never tried gaming with the setting enabled my my tv, but I imagine it would not be good.
Well it's not much different for gaming, unless you've only gamed on that one screen. Or at least I didn't notice anything.
I see. Well if that's the problem, most TVs with that feature allow you to disable it. I think it's called motion enhancement or something. It annoys me too, but my TVs/monitors don't have that feature, luckily.
It's that "cardboard layer" feel you get when watching something, right? Hate it too, looks too fabricated and doesn't stroke with reality at all imo... Although having said this, I can't wait untill my crt breaks down to upgrade my set-up... *crosses fingers against disappointment*
It almost looks like a synthetic picture to me. "If you're really interested in why the effect happens, it's because soap operas (and some other television shows) are shot on video, which is cheaper than film. But shooting on video increases the number of frames displayed per second, giving them that particular look. Many modern televisions seem to automatically create additional frames, even for filmed content. This "motion interpolation" is meant to smooth motion, which might be useful if you're watching a fast-action sporting event. But it also effectively makes content that was shot on expensive film appear to have been recorded on cheap video." Sums it up.
I watched a movie with a buddy a while back and he had the motion enhancement crap enabled. I was like, "How can you stand this!?" I did not get used to it, and I did not enjoy the movie because of it. I don't remember it making games (we played through Sin and Punishment 2 that night) look weird.
Yup, turn the motion interpolation feature (often called motion enhancement, Motion Plus, TruMotion or some other motion-related catchphrase) off and all will be well. You might want to turn it back on when watching sports, though. You really should be using PicturePerfect to set up your television, in which case you would never have had the issue in the first place http://www.avforums.com/home/pictureperfect.html
Turn of things that may be called "Motion Interpolation" "Smooth motion" etc. It's all fucking terrible.
I have plasma just because I didn't like the LED effects. Plus I got a 55" LG for $549 about 8 months ago....can't beat that.
Same reason I got a plasma, as well as the fact the color tones are just more natural with less fucking around calibrating it. I can't stand it but people go ape shit for it. Glad I'm away from the days of selling home theater at best buy...ugh
