Today i'd like to talk to you about one of my childhood favourites games that deserves some attention: Lego Loco.

What is it? Well, to put it bluntly, Sim City with legos. Now ok, you may think thats abit of a ripoff, but it's for the best- Lego Loco brings typical Lego Charm (that, looking around, seems to start around here) to a Simcity layout- albeit slightly simplified for the target age group.

But just what was fun about it? Well, a collection of things. Probably first and foremost was how satisfying it was to go from a blank canvas to a fully functioning town in one afternoon- each time completely different, even if you didn't have any ideas. It was made in 1998 (jeez am I that old?), so it could and can run on ANY computer used today, but still looks appealing to the eye with it's blocky-ness. Easter eggs came in bucketloads- for example, put four radio stations in a square and they become a Rocket Ship; and if you got enough people to take a gander at it, it could just launch. For a full list, check here: http://uk.ign.com/cheats/games/lego-loco-pc-11452
Heck, it even included a multiplayer mode where you could link up towns via LAN..not that I ever got it to work. You could name every item, person, animal, train to your liking- each with their own sound when you examined them. You played God- or just had an endless tub of lego. Compared to other Lego games of the time (I'm looking at you, crappy Rock raiders with unskippable cutscenes), this was gold.
Thats my two cents on a game- and a damn good one it is. Played it? Loved it? Hated it? Respond!...Please.

EDIT: I think this game is now abandonware and can be downloaded freely...you have no excuse! :loyal:

    I've also played this game.
It was my second Lego PC Game, my first was "Lego Insel" as it is called in Germany. Not sure about a english version called "Lego Island" ?

1998 I was 8 years old, I could remember that I wanted to play Lego Loco a couple of time... I played it but I wasnt sure what I did there. Just clicked around, dont know how to handle this game.
I prefered playing with my real Lego Toys

It was indeed called Lego Island, but yeah, I also just remember it as "Abenteuer auf der Lego Insel" :D Still have the Eurobox version of it at home. Absolutely lovely game, almost like an early Lego sandbox game. Stop the criminal by throwing pizza and donuts from a helicopter!

Lego Creator anyone? The dynamite block was ALL the fun! Making the TNT2 GPU sweat with bricks flying around!
