If you can, find a copy of Keritosse!

People tend to hate on it as well.

And Gungriffon 2 has a link up feature for two Saturn battle action ! I'm sure the 1st Gungriffon got a western release but they removed the MPEG version of the video.

I'm going to make another unusual suggestion here - it's by no means an 'overlooked' game, but people who buy a Saturn for fighters/shmups sometimes overlook it. Get NiGHTS into Dreams, with the 3D Pad! My fav game ever :D

I've yet to find Cyber Speedway, though I'm positive Gungriffon was released in PAL territories as it's regularly in my Saturn!

If i remember well the US release of Gungriffon still has MPEG movies on the disc, but they are not played during the game in this format.

I have the PAL version too, and yes it's an amazing game.

Are you serious? It was a mediocre Wipeout rip-off when it came out and hasn't aged well since. I'm only using the disc for the swap trick.

I had to check if my memory had proved me wrong. I had played it some four years ago and did really only remember the first few stages. So, yesterday I went out, bought the game and played it through.

Result: All but the last three stages and bosses are an effortless walkthrough. I had not lost one life until the fire dragon and then spent various continues (!) on the last three or four stages (it took me one continue until I had figured out how to run...) and the last two bosses.

It is a bit longer than I had expected but doesn't take longer than 1h30 at first try (incl. all the continues) and maybe 30-40min at the second or third with basically nothing to come back for. While a good and rare example of a 32-bit platformer more emphasis has been put on the looks than on a balanced gameplay. One problem for example is that later parts demand exact jumps and attacks which the spongy control scheme makes difficult.

It definitely is a game worth playing for the unique atmosphere and the beautiful looks alone and it will remain attractive even after another ten years from now.

Yep, Astel is what the 32bit gaming age should have been all about if it wasn't for the wankers insisting that 2D was dead.

Oh then why the hell people say "car" when they mean automobile? after all theres no carriages (the real use for the word car) in the road anymore:110:

I tell you why: becos everyone and their dog is used to call it like that, just like everyone in this industry means triangles when they talk about polygons, since no software nor hardware uses quads anymore...

With the current level of 2D graphics I say I'll remain that way even longer...

Apart from Odin Sphere I dont see 2D gaming going much further, graphically speaking.
