Speaking of clearing up misconceptions... :smt043 Hardwood is some of the safest flooring to work on, barring concrete. Linoleum is usually pretty safe, although I've been on lineoleum floors that can generate static. Carpet is the big no-no, but even that can be safe sometimes. If you have problems with getting zapped with door handles, under no circumstances should you do any work in that room. Otherwise, just take the nessicary precautions, ground youself, don't scuff your feet around while working, and you'll be fine.
