Site Feedback Let's have a discussion about the site

I have to leave for work in a few minutes, but I'm sure I'm not the only old timer still around that would like to help keep the place afloat. Responsibilities, financially, or otherwise. I'm at a point where I have literally half the month off (12 hour shifts otherwise leave me full days with little to do beyond being lonely and occasionally seeing friends) and I have some additional money than I did previously.

 

@assembler_EX don't take any drastic decision, like selling the site, in this mindset. It may not show all the time, but people like you and this website a lot. I know I felt like something was missing when it was down,.

I think taking in admins with the proper rights to administer the technical side of the website might alleviate your stress, and maybe give you the time to dig back into your collection and participate more in the community, as you did before, rather than associating the forums with negative menial technical tasks that you're not comfortable doing/are complex to you.

 

As webmaster of DCEmulation.org I understand completely where you're coming from Kevin.

People expect the site to work well and give you no credit when it does. When it doesn't, they complain and moan.
You need to delegate to others, but it's hard to delegate to others and still stick to your desired level of control, your vision of what the site should be, etc.

That having been said, this site is extremely fucking important to the gaming community. And you have a LARGE amount of people here that are capable of administering it well. It would be much better to allow others greater access to support the site than to just do away with it.

As someone who has donated multiple times, PLEASE do whatever you can to keep this place alive.

 

Keep in mind few people in the world can say that they reached as many people as you with what is basically their non-professional hobby/passion.

 

If you can’t realistically be around all the time Kev, and seriously who the hell can be, why not relinquish some power and bring on more trusted people, people you and the community can trust, as staff members? I think that was the majority of Demons issues was that when he tried to help the site you turned your nose up at the help. I’m a control freak myself so I understand it completely. AG is your baby. You created it and nurtured it into what it has transformed into today. With that being said, the king is only as powerful as the kingdom allows. The site has grown to what it is now through the community. Unless you let go of some of that power, this will be a reoccurring problem. You have I put trust into your mods. Has to happen. Otherwise the issues people have with you not being around will continue. You have to be here all the time or let the mods make decisions on your behalf. Keep the site running. Gather donations and give Something back even if it’s something simple like a special badge or font color. But collecting money from everyone and then the site goes dead for months and months pissed a lot of people off. Now we have Obscure Gamers as a competitor of sorts because of people feeling less than appreciated. I tried I keep my faith as long as I could for you Kevin. I really did. Plenty of people here on the site and elsewhere know I kept thinking something serious happened to you and that was the reason we all were refugees from AG. But then after all the site delays and very rare Tweets, not a thank you went out. I donated 100% proceeds to the site from XDK sales either under my own PayPal or with others per my direction. Once the site donation was made I sent them an otherwise free XDK. I didn’t need staff status. A special badge anything. I did it for you and the community. But when the site tanked and nothing came of it, you didn’t address any of us who supported you in the time you needed us the most. That absolutely broke my heart. It frustrated the shit out of me too because up until that point, I was willing to do anything including sending you free hardware to just get releases out. I mean this was my home. It burned to the ground and no one rescued us. So in the events Demon gathered everyone and gave us shelter. This is still home and I don’t feel any hatred or irritation with you. I just think this isn’t something that can just be plugged back in and pretend everything is fine. It will take hard work to get back what it was.

The first step is letting go of some things. Trust in @Johnny , @Borman , @retro @HEX1GON. The guys are your foot soldiers. Bring more on if it’s too much work. That way you don’t have to devote so much time. The cost of the site will be hard to get donations for after what happened. But don’t for a second think you’re not loved or respected because that isn’t true. Frustrated isn’t lack of love.

 

As a member of this community for15 years, believe me when i say i don't consider this as an "utility". This place was a treasure back then and in my opinion, still is. Learning about dev items and rare stuff was awesome back then and continues to be. It's awesome to log in and seeing someone found / discovered something rare. Plus, all those years i managed to make friends here that i consider more than some people i know in real life.

Like everybody i guess, i also had some issues in my life. Health, family, work... one recently. I always prefered to keep those to myself and i have to say, being a member here actually helped me on many of those occasions. Over the years, i've noticed a lot of people come and go... and yet, this place still kept it's recognition by many for it's quality community and content. Everytime i see a news on another site mentioning AG it always brings i smile on my face.

And over the years, we've talked some times and i always pointed out how i enjoy being a member of this community you created. We've talked about how to improve the site, it's funding, shared ideas and so on. I'm not going to judge your decisions, but for some time i've said the weight on your shoulders was just too much. You should've had focused on your health issues and let people help you. I know how preservation is important to you, hence why i think the site should be able to help that and not become a burden. We need help, in order to keep the focus on more important stuff, be it real life issues or adding new content / ideas here.

With the site going down, i've started to notice a lot of negativity rising. That worried me and during the downtime i kept contact with retro and managed to talk to you in one occasion as well. Like i said at that time, at this point in life, you shouldn't have to deal with these problems alone. At this point, you should have been able to put the museum area back online, something you care a lot and left the hardware / software issue being solved by someone else.

As always, I thank you for all these years of knowledge, discoveries and fun times here and i do honestly hope this place continues to exist for many years to come.

 

It's been a while since I've posted (I was very active around the Xtreme release and after, then mostly lurking for periods in years after) but at no point have I ever had anything but great memories and experiences with this site and community.

I'm not sure where the current drama stems from, but having been involved with other drama at times I know how stupid shit online can follow you through the day. In regards to dislike of Kev, I've never thought is him as anything but passionate and experienced and competent, if a little cold and curt sometimes. And there are justified reasons for that, but who we are online is nothing except our posts. I know I'm a good person, but people online can only see what I present to them.

So who knows where things are going to go from here, right? All I can say is that I've loved this place dearly, and many of the long term posters here who make a community so much more than the sum of its parts.

If there is something that I can as part of the community as it finds its footing, I'd be thrilled and honoured. Hopefully this isn't the last for or from any of us. Take care all, and remember that there is lots of love and good feels in the world, but sometimes the world makes you dig for it.

 

I'm not sure what's everyone's deal, though i can't see it from everyone's perspective either...

I use the site for my own interests and needs (Literally just for XDK's and Dead Rising) - And because of that small selection, i rarely visit here to actually post something. I have literally no issues with the site, simply because my personal interests on here are probably far away from where the shitposters and the angry boiz lay, so i guess i can't see drama here, or anything bad at all - yet i hear about it all the time..?

I really couldn't imagine the internet without this one video game black market site we call ASSEMblerGames, and i wouldn't want to imagine it either.

Concerning the site, it's meaning to me personally, the issues it's having and how to deal with them - I'm ready to sign under every word written by Borman. He expressed exactly what I'm thinking but in a much better way then I'm able to.

Him and me are not the only two people that've brought it up. There are 1-2 (not sure atm) trigger happy, incredibly rude, mods on here. No need to namedrop as concerned parties know, and there's no point in dramawhoring. Oh, just noticed a familiar presence.. nvm..

 

Are you completely insane? There are SEVERAL FREAKING THREADS THAT HAVE BEEN GOD DAMN BUMPED WHICH ARE WAY OVER THAN 1 YEAR OLD IN THE FILE SHARING SECTION YET THOSE PEOPLE DONT GET BANNED. I like to EXPOSE scammers, the person in question had swore at me and even targeted my WTB thread. You banned me after I retaliated less crudely like the little bitch you are. Perhaps you need to find a life and stop deliberately banning me because you don't like it when someone talks back to you in the same way you DO TO THEM!.

You weren't banned for bumping a year old thread. You weren't even banned for bumping a year old thread with a fucking pointless complaint about that thread. I mean, YOU'RE digging it up... let it rest and people would forget about it. You correctly reported the issue using the report button. However, you then chose to wait ONLY SIXTY MINUTES before moaning the staff didn't do anything. That's rude. And then laid into staff when they told you to knock it off.

As for the second thing, you should NOT have had a go at the user in his PRICE CHECK thread. He can't sell in a price check thread. He is welcome to ask for a value. If you have a concern with a user being a scammer, report it to staff privately. You didn't do that. You kept arguing with him. I told you that you were breaking the rules, and you proceeded to argue with me. Seriously, get help... you have a problem.

Hopefully this little community can figure it out soon and keep the train rolling without derailing... though we're not off to a good start.

I love this place, and even though I haven't been active much the past couple years it would be terrible for it to disappear. If there's anything a random user like myself can do to help, just holler. We'll hear you.

 

Most conflicts are very effective in highlighting points of friction and issues which need to be resolved. As far as I can see this thread has been very productive in this sense and several serious issues have been brought to light.

 

How is this a rant though? It's simple exposure... I think it works both ways, you've mis-interpreted and ignored a lot of what I have said and refused to FAIRLY review the situations and understand the reasoning behind the actions I have taken prior to being banned in the past. Your Moderation skills are uniquely poor and not of something I would expect of a forum that is of this scale.

I stated to you clearly the user is clearly a scammer and in the weeks prior also posted on another forum with false/scam information. Why can't I expose this user? What's the problem here? Just so you know, I have evidence that could lead one of your well known staff members in serious legal trouble and have them sued (no joke). Would you really want to risk that? I guess this says a lot about the Moderation team. All they do is threaten people and speak rudely to them. I will play you at your own game
