so... i have this euro launch unit SCPH-1002 that was bought on the launch day.

it has served me well ever since, but i didnt respect hardware very much at my young age back then, so all the paint, stickers, dropping, knocking over etc
left it's scars on my poor little playstation...

a while ago i found it in pieces from a cardboard box under my bed where it had been sitting forgotten a while, and decided it's time to give it a new life.
the following picture heavy post will light up a little how it was and how it is now, including a list of things i did :)
My mods usually dont get a good eye around the internets but i figured this is atleast interesting enough to be shared even if you dont see the point of some of the stuff i made.

    here we go:

    1) sanding + new paintjob (this was the 4th time the case was painted so it obviously shows)
    2) video output rebuild (a lot of components had suffered so i ended up replacing most of them)
    3) added mini-DIN for dedicated S-Video output + a surprise

    and for the pictures:

    Then to the bonus ;)
im sure most of you noticed the extra switch next to AC input.
no, it's not a power switch.
Im sure you will know what it does when i mention that it is connected to the S-Video Chrominance..

    here you go:

    why a black&white toggle you ask ?
well, i have this weird fetish of playing parasite eve as black & white, it's just awesome like that :)

    hope you enjoyed the show.

here's one last pic with black peripherals and showing off the nice blue power led :)
(PS logo is missing, the old glue was crappy enough to not hold and i havent reattached it yet)

    thanks :)
i tried to be throughout with it, painting all the connectors at the back and the controller ports and such..
i think it turned out fine despite the case being in absolutely horrible shape
here's hoping it serves me for another decade or 2 :p

I too like this. What kind of paint did you use? It looks stock and of course your black and white switch is the icing. Very nice.

the paint is just your typical matte black acrylic spray..
this one is a little odd though, as from all the spray paints i've ever used, this is the only one that completely dries up in only few hours.
Usually the paints i use take a day to dry up and up to 3 to be safe to handle properly.

hmm, I didn't realize that spray paint worked so well with plastic. I will definitely keep this in mind.

    Thank you.

Fantastic job! This reminds me, I've got a couple unused units sitting around... One is definitely in need of some refurbishing. Maybe I'll start working on that next and add some mods while I'm at it!

    Inspiring work. +1

it's really fun to work on these even though they might not get much use..

this particular one i wanted to revive as it's my first playstation, so it holds a special place in my shelf of epic that used to be :p

Reminds me of something I saw in an OLD EGM. To develop the early Gamesharks/Action replays They actually built their own systems.

as far as i know it's that easy to fit s-video to any ps1, the MultiAV outputs it as is so just tap to pins 5 and 7 of the multiav connector to get luma (pin5) and chroma (pin7) :)

as for looking liek a net yaroze, as much as i love the yaroze, i didnt really try to make a lookalike :p

here's a a piccy of my 1002 with my yaroze for comparison :)

I love the yaroze too, though mine isn't quite as useful as yours - missing the 'memory' card :(

It does look a fair bit different actually, much classier than the original grey one too :)

    Looks awesome dude.

I honestly think the PS1 is the most beautiful looking console ever made. That yaroze is just stunning!

hehe, i think i like the (fat)PS2 a little more, but agreed. Yaroze is a lovely looking machine.

as for what comes to this rebuilt 1002, it just got a little better as i got a 28" CRT to hook it up with today :)
tomorrow's gonna be a parasite eve playing day :p
