That file has long gone I'm afraid. That post was made years ago.

It was taken in a tsukigime parking lot right by Minami Gyotoku Station in Chiba.

Edit: Added google map. It's the parking lot you see dead center of the satellite image.

Ah cool - thought it was going to be a weird coincidence :)

The only thing on Japanese tv i could stomach long term was 水曜どうでしょう

Nice Martin! Did you walk that ridiculous crosswalk to get your 3DS? Haha

Side note - how is the 3D effect in person?

Yeah, I walked across it :)

3D effect is great. This is coming from someone that gets sick watching the Bourne films (had to leave cinema during the 3rd film because of sickness... not the script  )

It's a really great system and feels very well put together. Solid bit of kit.

When everything starts blooming it looks a lot, lot nicer. At the moment it's fucking freezing here, so there's not much foliage in shibuya. Having said that, for Japan, it's relatively sparse.

There's a surprising amount of green in the city. As per Martin, it's all bare and brown now, and will be so until the Sakura come, marking the day everyone goes and gets shit faced and destroys the park.

Shibuya proper doesn't have a lot, as it's a shopping/party district. Walk about 2km in any direction and get to the semi-residential areas and it's a lot more livable. I live in Shibuya-ku, and can almost throw a rock and hit Yoyogi Park.

When I lived in Tokyo I avoided Shibuya and Shinjuku at all costs. Something about those places I can't stand. I was usually in Daikanyama, Nakameguro, Takadanobaba or Ikebukuro. Sendai life is much better for my personality (read: I prefer cars over trains).

When I lived in Tokyo I loved seeing the Sakura trees down the side of a lake from Nakameguro Station. Such a beautiful site the first time I saw them. I'd never seen Sakura before then.

I can't wait to see the Sakura. I am going to take about 1000 photos so I hope I take at least one decent one!

GP; where's a good place to go - park wise? I fancy sitting in a park with the missus and drinking umeshu all day/evening!

Then don't go to Yoyogi park. I've got pictures of it from the last few years, and while it's semi domestic during the day, it's still filled with rowdy youngins. The night is even worse, as it's accompanied with loud music. The police have been trying to crack down as of last year, but everyone just turns it on as they walk off.

During the day there's going to be kids just about anywhere. One place I went ages ago which was nice and not too sleazy was Aoyama Reien (Cemetery). Although you may find it weird that they're selling yakisoba in such a place.

Meguro River runs through Nakameguro area like Yakumo was saying, but it's semi-disgusting. The sakura around it are quite nice though.

Shinjuku Gyoen has a decent supply of sakura. The park itself is the best in town, hands down. It costs 200 yen for adults, but that money goes to keeping the place up, and jackasses out. It's worth going to just about any time from April on without Sakura.

Ueno Park is famous for sakura, but I've never been. In fact, I've been to Ueno I think 3 times ever, once when I wasn't living here.

Again, walk about 2km out of the shopping districts and you'll be surprised. Shibuya-ku is actually a monstrosity, holding Yoyogi which is also ginormous. Starting a block from Don Quijote in Shibuya, you can see some of the nicest real estate in the country. Surprisingly, it's amazingly quiet.

I believe you, but there was just never a reason for me to venture out that far.

Someone told me the safest place on the road is behind a police car.

Late mask note: Anyone western ever wear them (and not in Japan)? I've thought them to be a good idea, but don't want to look like a total clot or Otaku douche.

If I start my job at the local post office (Data entry, basically typing in failed scans of mail all day), I'm going to deeply consider it as I'll be working on semi-public computer terminals regularly.

Nah, that's the most annoying because you have to drive at a snails pace. I hate being stuck behind a police car.

I dont think people will care too much. My understand is that most people are wearing them for hay-fever.

It would look weird as hell in the UK but everyone here does it.

During other seasons they also wear them for regular colds, to help prevent other people from catching it as well.
