They're pretty much a lost or dead art now. Save for the Wii where this game genre seems to flourish.

But there sure have been some great Light Gun Games.

    Silent Scope
    House of the Dead
    Virtua Cop
    Time Crisis
    Point Blank
    Lethal Enforcers
    Duck Hunt
    Hogan's Ally
Gangster town (points if you remember or even know where this is from)

and the not so good ones like:

    Area 51
    Wild Gunman
MOST of the Light gun games on Wii (I think Ghost Squad and House of the Dead Overkill are the only good ones)

What were some of your favorite Light gun games? Which do you think blew? And...is the genre over due for a full on comeback?

Gangster town is a Sega Master System Game ? well I have played it on an emulator some years ago, but I youtubed it. So that is the reason why I remembered that I had played it some years ago. Pretty cool old game.

Gangster Town I had for my actual master system. It's what Hogan's Ally wishes it was and at the same time a good precursor to Virtua Cop.

HotD2 is my favorite light gun game of all time, and definitely not just because of the awesome voice acting. Who doesn't love blasting zombies to pieces? I'm also a big fan of Ghost Squad and the Virtua Cop games (although I didn't like the PS2 remake, it felt "off"). Time Crisis is good too, but I never liked it as much as Sega's games...

Special mention: anything by American Laser Games (Mad Dog McCree, Crime Patrol, etc.). Something that cheesy is automatically awesome, and I need the McCree pack for Wii.

I'm just going to come out and say that you're an idiot who, once again, doesn't know what the hell you are talking about. Area 51 is one of the most successful and beloved light gun games there is (I even own an Area 51/Maximum Force combo arcade board).

so insulting lol, the man is entitled to his opinion ya know.

Area51 is a pretty fun game , i've played it hundreds of times and I still find cabs in places I go to. But even I don't think it's one of the best. *shrugs*

Don't call Wii games "lightgun" games. You have to actually have a Light Gun to call it that. The Wiimote is a piece of shit.

I've played Light Gun games on the SNES (Super Scope), Genesis & Sega CD ( Konami's Lethal Enforcers Gun), PS1 (Guncon clone), and PS2 (Guncon 2). I think I sold the Genesis stuff but I'm not sure. I don't use it anymore since I only knew about the two Lethal Enforcers games on Sega CD and I ended up getting those for PS1.

I really dig the Guncon 2 for PS2 with Time Crisis 2, TC3, and Vampire Night. I'd like to get Crisis Zone but I've never found it, atleast so far. I'd also like the japanese only "Gunvari" collection I think it's called. It's supposed to have Time Crisis 1 and the Variety Lightgun games Namco made that I can't think of the name for. Point Blank I believe it is.

Super Scope was really neat. I loved Battle Clash and it's sequel. The Super Scope 6 collection was pretty decent too actually. Yoshi's Safari was ok but nothing special. I think my favorite Lightgun platform is definitely PS2 with the Guncon 2 cause it's extremely accurate.

Normally, I would agree, but historically, his opinion has been wrong on most things.

Try playing area 51 now... go ahead try.

Hasn't aged that well. Gmae looks like a bunch of animated GIFs strung together now.

Area 51 does suck.. I'm sorry but it's a piece of trash compared to anything in the HOTD series or Virtua Cop.. There are so many better games out there that make area 51 pale in comparison that I don't understand how anyone can hold it in such high esteem. I know alot of people that Looooove Area 51 and that's all fine, but for my money I'll pass it up and play something good.

It's the atmosphere, love it or hate it. Area 51 has aliens, HotD has zombies, Virtua Cop has criminals, etc.

I think A51 is a rather humorous game really lol.

It's fun to play and that's all that matters, even if it DOES look like a screen moving around while you shoot Animated GIF's.

That being said, I do prefer VC and HOTD Vastly over it.

Yeah I just don't care for it very much. The only time I've ever had fun playing it was with a drunk blonde at an arcade at the jersey shore.. ughh how I loathe the shore too now that I think about it.

I never liked it when it was out and when I grabbed it in mame it was even worse I had no indication that I actually shot anything the scenes kept cutting in and out and in and out. Then In again.

The Newer FPS ones are ok though....Heathens

And Lethal Enforcers has aged well then? That game looks even cheesier than Mad Dog McCree now. Point Blank, which I somehow forgot to mention despite totally loving it, even made fun of it with those parts where you shoot cardboard cutouts.
