Well, Just got this: off ebay Logic 3 Predator lightgun (saturn/ps1) View attachment 3930 using it on saturn. as i dont currently have a working ps1. anyway i'm looking for suggestions for good lightgun games i have Virtua Cop 1 and 2, The House of the Dead, Die Hard Trilogy. also lightgun game recomendations from other systems are welcome and if anyone likes arcade lightgun games check your local arcade as the Terminator Salvation one is quality
House of the Dead 2 is probably the best lightgun game IMO, but other favorites of mine are the Time Crisis and Point Blank series.
Time Crisis 2 is my fav. I used to enjoy Area 51 back in the day. Havent played it in years, and I doubt its aged well.
Definately house of the dead 2 on the dreamcast, it's a must play title. I managed to pick up one of the heavier DC light guns (non official), which works quite and is on par with the official dc light gun for accuracy. Also for the DC try out Confidential Mission.
Time Crisis and Point Blank on the PS1 are really good light gun games but House of the Dead 2 on DC has to be my personal fave, I really miss not being able to play it with a gun on my HDTV. To save on posting another thread, I have a quick question regarding light gun games on current gen consoles, with the advent of using camera and censor based methods for aiming on screen, does anyone else not miss the whole free aiming you got from the traditional shooting with a gun method, I really hate the floaty method of guiding a reticle on screen, almost like waving a wand about! :concern: Am I missing something or can you still play the traditional method?
If you want to play Saturn gun games, you should get a Virtua Gun - it's way better than those third party guns. It looks and feels just like a real arcade gun. You should also be sure to get the Japanese version, since it's black and looks cooler. I got one at a game shop in Seattle and I love it. The GunCon 2 is also a very nice gun, very accurate. I agree with what others have said about Time Crisis and Point Blank. All the Time Crisis games are pretty good, except 4 isn't all that great. Be warned though: the GunCon 2 is not backwards compatible with GunCon games. I think you're right, there's no free aiming with IR/camera based gun games. For some games it kinda makes sense though, like L.A. Machineguns/Gunblade NY which had reticules in the original games. I agree that for most games it isn't ideal. They're also not as responsive or accurate as lightguns.
My fav is Time Crisis I and II (never played any of the others) because you get duck to reload and stop from getting shot at. I seem to do pretty well on that game, but for the others not so well. There's too much to shoot at once, plus you have no way of not getting hit at what ever they are shooting. Be a gun, bite, claws, whatever.. :/ =hugh
It isn't half bad actually. I loved it way back when and I love it now. MAME plays it very well but a mouse makes it too easy.
i got the Logic 3 Predator because of its multi system compatability and like its look, so far i've played die harder and virtua cop with it and it works really well. i agree with the comments on the new systems its just not the same, i think the closest to the light guns is the wii but still not the same. my dreamcast gun (HKT-7800) came this morning got it off amazon with a 'rumble pack' HKT-8600, just waiting on HOTD2 to arrive. i got an old 28" Hitachi CRT tv for free from a friend (heavy!) so i could use the light guns, will also be getting a ps2(fat) for free from another friend so bonus all around. i assume the ps1 lightgun games such as time crisis are compatable with ps2? dont see why they wouldnt be.
The thing that's really annoying about PS1 light guns is that there's two different ones, both made by Namco, that aren't compatible with each other.
I had a similar Logic 3 Gun once, got it mainly for the Saturn part too, it was enirely silver colored. Mine had an extra yellow RCA cable coming from the controller connector part to the AV-part (piggybacked) for the PS1 part. Also had a pedal, which'd connect via jack into the bottom of the gun for Time Crisis games.... I don't see this on yours?
thats the logic 3 predator 2 i think was silver coloured and had the pedal and av connector, mine is the original logic 3 predator, i've not tried it on the ps1 yet as i dont have a working one to try it on. works great on the saturn. also arrived today was house of the dead 2, and a scart switching block, which also works great so all in all very happy. going to look into getting area 51.
I really hope they come up with tech to work properly with HDTV's like old times, I did have a 50" rear projection that I used for all my light gun games (how I miss you HOTD 2) but when I moved into my new flat it had to go, just haven't got the space. Another I forgot to mention was House of the Dead 3 on the original Xbox, that was pretty awesome!
the new 'lightgun' is by using sensors (like in the arcades) or by using Sensorbar, PsMove or Kinect, I highly doubt there will be any other (affordable) consumer way.
There is the EMS top gun, but they are expensive, and i don´t want to buy a crt tv, since they are too big, i even play my cdx, ps1 and other old consoles in a LCD.
@Pato, yes I know about those type of guns they use a sensor bar (or actually two, just like the ones used by the GunCon3). I was more talking about modern technology ;-).
went into the local cash converters today n this appeared infront of me for £4 so thought screw it why not View attachment 4076 on another note, they had gamecube power supplies for £8 and N64 ones for £10 bit much?
Although old lightgun games using proper lightguns are the best... ...for more recent titles on current gen consoles...I recommend House Of The Dead Overkill, even though it uses IR or whatever, its still a really cool game. For older titles, Virtua Cop 1&2 (but you already have those) and as others have said House Of The Dead 2... ...for 8bit, get a light phaser for the Master System and buy the 3in1 cartridge Marksman/Safari Hunting/Clay Pigeon Shooting!:cool-new:
