http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8293517&st=samsung+30&type=product&id=1172880154412 please excuse all of the questions this week, just trying to get some gaming in before I have to go back to college (sigh) anyways, isn't it correct that a CRT is the only type of television that is able to use lightguns? The reason I ask is because I purchased the TV in the link above, and for some odd reason, it recognizes the gun, but refuses to calibrate it correctly. Now, I know that there is an universal gun plus Namco is giving Time Crisis 4 a new type of gun to be used on any TV, but the systems in mind are quite older (NES, Saturn, Dreamcast, Master System, etc) Is it a glitch? Must I change the settings of the TV?? Any advice will do. Thanks again
I'm guessing that, since it's an HDTV, it's probably scaling the image and also running at a slightly different refresh rate than the original picture. That could be the problem since lightguns rely on the refresh rate for timing. That's just a guess, though.
I believe that this is the case. There's a couple of lightguns on the market that use infra-red sensors, rather than the refresh scan, to calculate position - you'll probably need to look for one of these. The lightguns marketed for LCD use should work - see this earlier discussion for examples: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13913
I believe that there are also CRT HDTV compatible lightgun's out there; without the use of sensorbar's etc. I think they may have them at a local store. I will check.
CRT is the right type of display for a true "Lightgun" device. However your game systems are designed for a 480i native display. HDTVs tend not to natively support 480i. You need a new gun that doesn't require a 480i CRT, or you need one that supports whatever your HDTV does like 480p, 720p, 1080i. I think you'll need something like that LCD Topgun or just to hang onto a regular CRT to play on. I'd like to get 2 regular but big CRTs, with 2 older model PS2s. Then system link them and play Time Crisis 2. Someday maybe.
