Discussing the XBOX ONE with a friend of mine the other day, he mentioned there was a few bundles being released here. We are now getting a white XBOX ONE and a Call of Duty edition. Previously he bought the Titanfall edition which is nothing special other than the controller. So he was saying how he really wants one of the two limited editions that have been announced and leaning more towards the CoD one due to the hard disk size being 1TB. This made me think... Is this generation trigger happy with limited editions? It just seems so early to me to see two limited editions being released so close together. Nintendo has been somewhat similar pumping out a Limited Edition every 1st party release, Smash Bros being the latest. I really can't remember previous generation being like this.
There was a study done recently that found that LE stuff tends to keep second hand prices (resale) higher. So if a company has a fear that the resale value of its product may be getting too low they will pump out Limited Editions to juice the second hand market. (To encourage people to buy new, as the price difference between 2nd hand and new will be small).
In that case, I have my eye on the Sunset Overdrive bundle. XBOX ONE in white, just looks amazing. @MoonTar There was also a Super Bowl one wasn't there, in Silver?
I think most of those E3 ones were just either skins or repainted ones for the Xbox booths. Yeah, I don't really remember a lot of 360/PS3 Limited Edition consoles. The Halo 3 one is the only one I can think of that was retail.
360 was flooded with LE consoles once Jasper was released, Resident Evil 5, CoD MW2, FF. Then the slim was released and all hell broke loose Halo Reach, Halo 4, Star Wars, Gears of War 3, CoD MW3. I swear there was a new 360 LE every month at one point. PS3 has a ton of LE's too, but mostly Japan releases.
The final fantasy Phat xbox 360 was the weakest Limited Edition that I have seen so far. All they did was add a different metal plate to the hard drive and then bundled it with the game. I cant believe they released it in a plain white shell with white faceplate.
Haha, yea the creativity wasn't very high on those LE consoles. To be fair though PS4 has such high demand right now, they can barely keep PS4s in stock. The LEs will come out as soon as things slow down. Same thing happened in both PS3 and PS2 generations. Black for like the first 3 hardware model numbers. Then afterwards they released a ton of rather beautiful looking LE consoles.
