Hello, I used the search but failed dramatically. Even the google results confused me even more (Answer X Answer games ?) Once I saved this image of this ALL net P-ras card, which was in one Lindbergh(?) thread here on assemblergames. It got shown together with one card reader. But what is this thing ? Is it a security chip/dongle ? Is it used to save data ? And finally, is there a place on the net where you can obtain such cards ? ^^
Still not sure after reading this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALL.Net It allowed palyers to create save-games and/or save progress... ...and it was supposed to be able to get updates for the arcade machine. So my gues would be, this card "enables" you to recieve updates for SEGA games if you own one ?
its probably just a card you can save too, all.net is just a service that connects you and pushes updates to games instead of sending out a new drive
-Card is for the game "Answer X Answer" http://www.japannewsreview.com/entertainment/games/20070705page_id=362 http://www.arcadebelgium.net/t3271-answer-x-answer-live -The card reader used in a SEGA Lindbergh is a "Athena ASE Drive IIIe USB" which can be aquired for around 20 Euros. http://www.cryptoshop.com/athena-asedrive-iiie-v3-usb-reader.html Originally NXP sold these (Athena) card readers. NXP (Next eXPerience) is a fomer part of (Royal) Phillips. NXP aquired "Athena SCS". Qualcomm aquired NXP. I opened the one I have : Not much to see except that it is Version 3.0 -It installs just fine using Windows 7, via Windows Update. -Windows also detects if you put a smartcard in -The card reader could read all kind of chip cards via the software "ChipCard Master", but wasnt able to read the ALLNet P-ras card (Answer X Answer) So far so good. ;p Here it says : http://www.japannewsreview.com/entertainment/games/20070705page_id=362 "Users can keep track of their progress by saving it on a special purpose IC card; a service which if used will also enable the game to match players against evenly skilled opponents." No idea if this is the "user card" or the "owners card" to actualy update the game...
Ok, slightly off topic but I had to ask. For all these smart cards and magnetic cards (For games like Initial D, etc), the games usually make you renew your license (ie. way to say buy another card) after 30 writes or something like that. Is that purely a cash grab, or do some of these cards really have media write limitations?
