Hi Guys, I have four Sega Naomi based cabinets (each cabinet is a single player setup) By linking all four together together will that allow me to play multi player games together? Do I need four copies of the same game? Example: WWF Royal Rumble is 4 players simultaneous, I want each cabinet to be a single player for head to head play. Do I need 4 copies of Royal Rumble? or like Virtual Tennis, I want to play against another player (on another cabinet) I tried Google searching and couldn't find much, just "The Naomi architecture is very flexible in that a cabinet can have anywhere from 1 to 16 boards. A multi board system would operate in parallel increasing the power of the system"
Not only do you need 4 copies of the same game, you need 4 network cards that go under the game into the mobos.
Yes, I know I need the Communication Boards and fiber optic cables, but what games support linking? any known list?
ermm not really, these games offer multiplayer on the same cabinet, they don't have an linking option. Virtua Tennis is not compatible with linking your NAOMI motherboard, since it offers 2P on the same screen, same counts for Power Stone 2 (which offers 4P on the same screen). In these cases you need to wire your controls and video output in a specific way, in which you'll only use one NAOMI + gameboard. Games like OUTTRIGGER, SPAWN, HEAVY METAL GEOMATRIX etc can be linked for multiplayer
Some games actually used multiple Naomi boards for one game. F355 Challenge, for example, had 3 Naomi boards - each driving one of 3 screens in the cabinet. That has nothing to do with multiplayer, but it's one way that Naomi boards can be used "in parallel".
I would assume a few fighting game carts would have this feature and ofc racing games. Don't hold me to it. Its just an educated guess based on arcade machine setups i seen. Like back to back fighting cabinets that allow new player challengers and racing cabs that usually have some form of multiplayer. Maybe these are satellite terminals? Also as a follow up to la-li-lu-le-lo, from what i know games like the F355 Challenge game that runs a parallel multiboard setup requires some expensive obscure hardware to run.
