Just noticed that Lion King for the NES is out on Tradera (swedish bidding site. Like eBay. Oh Wait. eBay bought them last year). Theyre asking 5000 SEK for it (with todays dollar thats $782.78.)
Is the game so rare that its worth that much?
The game is a PAL version released through Bergsala/SCN. Bergsala has been having monopoly on Nintendo products since day one and that may play a part.

Yeah I know, the info is in swedish but dont bother, its jus about warranty and shipping.

I find it kind of funny that they'd still put out an NES game in 1994. From my understanding, the NES version was only released in Europe. I've never seen it stateside. That seems like a lot for an NES game... I wonder how many copies were made or sold...

SNES version of the game OWNED!

    Not 5000 SEK rare.
tbh. I have no idea how rare it is.. but I can't find it on any NES rarity list. Reading the auction it sounds more like it's rare b\c it's a "Bergsala edition" - what ever that's supposed to mean. I mean all NES games in Sweden came from Bergsala.
Maybe I'm missing something here? Wasn't it released in EU/Sweden?
I'm prtty sure my friend even had this when We were kids.

edit: I must also add that the box is in really bad condition to have been part of the sellers "Museum".

lion king on the NES per se isnt very rare, however the bergsala edition (yeah its exactly the same apart from the bergsala sereal) is extremely rare, Lion king and Aladdin were both released after the effective death of the NES in sweden, none of them sold any units since both have superior versions on the SNES and the games retailed at the same price.

on top of that almost no shops carried NES games any more.

i doubt its 5000SEK rare on this peticular site but amongst swedish collectors it most certainly is, its sold for more in the past even.
i remember when quartex was hunting his down, he offered sillymoney for even incomplete, dirty, busted copies of the game.. and came up zilch.

id guess the total ammount of copies out there only number in the hundreds..

I remember several of my friends owning a Lion King NES cart back in the nineties! Not sure what version it was, though. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a pirate, those were quite unusual except for one particular type of 190-in-1 cart.

Is it for real? Or is it just a clone game made for the NES on a chip consoles?

I know in Holland and Germany it is not really rare, I think the value of a nice complete one is $ 50-$75 if you advertise it on ebay.com as 'pal only release' Not by far as rare or expensive as games like Rodland.

its a real game and you are all right, the game can be had for peanuts if your looking for a non-bergsala version.

its like with AES kizuna encounter really.. the game struggles to even reach $10 in MVS or the jap AES release.. but the european one..
