    Hello Guys,

Here is my only one entry in this list. I haven't been able to play it yet. Alone in the Dark is one of the only Infogrames games that is not impossible to finish haha.

You should be able to boot this via swap method bud and I know you can dump it with an SD adapter if you wish.

    Thanks Raziel :)

Wombat also told me that. I need to give it a try, but I have many games to check (I am selling part of my collection) before checking this one.

    Thanks :)

My first game in a gd-r is on its way to my home. Not so rare but is a build of floigan brother from 30/08/01 so I think it's the same as the retail. I paid 70€, I think it's a good price ,and I always dreamed about one beta game on my collection but never had money to buy one. If it s useful for the community I will dump and release it, I have sd card reader and Japanese cake bios to do that

@Alessio, congratulations on getting your first GD-R! Do you also have a System Disc 2 to boot the disc? If not, you'll have to resort to disc swapping in order to get the disc dumped (my guess, if you have the retail version of this game, use that one for swapping so you have the same amount of tracks and lba values. Assuming the beta doesn't differ too much of course).

Doesn't japanese cacke support direct boot of gd-r? Can I boot a copy or system disk 2? I could even rip It to sd card and then analize data on my pc

Nope, sorry, this is out of my area of expertise :/ Booting a GD-R without SD2 or disc swapping implies hacking the GD-Rom drive firmware and afaik no one has been able to dump, patch and flash the firmware (or at least so far there is nothing public about this).

I see the almighty @japanese_cake already responded while I was typing my reply :).

For the record, there's a copy floating around of the System Disc 2, however a copy of this disc is useless seeing the magic of the SD2 is impossible to copy.

Ok, i tried with a backup of system disk 2 and seems to boot at least retail gd, so it should boot gd-r I think

Are you sure? It seems to work, because if I open the gd drive when the sd2 arrive to the "complete" screen the Dreamcast wait for a disc without going to the bios. I tried with a retail game and the console rest itself ,then play the game. Instead with a not selfbooting copy of a game goes to dreamcast bios. But I never had a gd-r game to test ,only a blank one in my collection (which I tested ad the drive keeps looking for tracks)

You don't even have to boot the SD2 to boot GD-R. In the bios menu, you put the SD2 disc, wait for the disc to be detected by the console (this is when the drive makes a "bip"). From then and until the system is turned off, you can boot any gdr. The SD2 has a special "ring signature" that tells the drive to disable the ring check. And all this code resides in the gdrom drive firmware which unfortunately we cannot by-pass or modify.

    O.T.
Thank you, you re great, I really love your bios, I made a donation too. Can't wait for the next release , I'm on 1.031 , I don't remember why but 1.032 doesn't fit my needs for something so I wait for the next.
    End of O.T.

The gd-r of floigan brothers from Sega Europe has arrived. I was able to boot it only with the swap method that implies resetting the dreamcast clock, I wasn't able to boot it with a bootleg system disk 2 and I even tried in many ways to fake the drive and find a bug in firmware like the one that permits it with the internal time reset. The system disk 2 without the ring data like the original is useless because it seems to work and boot but the console can't run the code on the gd-r because is not authorized (by the holly chip??)
The game seems pretty finished at first glance. The only difference I found is the missing online menu. Due to the late date written over the gd-r near to the commercial release I suppose it could be a final version exactly like the one on white label ( some of mine white labels and samples gd are missing online too) that is only meant to substite it, or an internal final review copy for Sega europe. Is anyone interested in a dump and release? But you have to help me because if I try to rip it with dreamshell to sd ,I immediately get some bad sectors and after some minutes the drive goes to standby. The disc is perfect and has no scratches over or under, and it plays perfectly without a jump in the audio or strange sounds from the laser,so it must be something in dreamshell.

Let's put some new life in this topic, because I'm pretty sure many of us totally missed out on reading @Alessio's message!
@Alessio do you perhaps have a BBA? If so I know you can change the value's in HTTPDACK to ignore bad sectors so that you can dump what's readable, after that I'm pretty sure one of the more technical capable Dreamcast enthousiasts can replace the bad data with retail to make it boot :)

Let's hope another member can chime in who has more experience with using the dumping software for SD, most likely that application also has features to ignore/zero-out bad sectors.
