I watched all the littlebigplanet videos, and I like the style. However, the level interaction is basically left to right. It reminds me strongly of clockwork knight. It also seems like it would get pretty boriong after a while. Is anyone as underwhelmed as I am?
I think the physics and the interaction of gamers to make their own levels and share them online is what makes the game special.
It does look neat, I wouldn't mind picking it up in 3 years when i get around to purchasing a ps3. Even if it is underwhelming at least their trying new things; could lead to bigger and better things eventually.
Although I know players can make their own levels on Mega Man Power Up, how are physics used? I'm not familiar with the game unfortunately. Also, is there the 4 player mode?
Simple is not always bad. Some of the best games are 8-directional, 2-button games. I would also say there's more than just left to right here. We presumably saw stage 1 of many stages. There's a seemingly deep physics engine underneath. Yes... with basically every single other current gen game.
it may prove to be the Donkey Kong Country of modern times, both in term of gameplay and graphics - and I aware that most of you have no respect for DKC's gameplay
I have almost no interest for anything else on the platform, but Little Big Planet looks great. It may turn out to be the Loco Roco of PS3; the game I really wish I could play but isn't quite enough justification for the hardware expendature.
The DKC series was made of EPIC WIN, although DKC2 really peaked as far as fun went. Then again, most people on this forum aren't "normal" gamers -- look at all the shmup fanatics we have here for example! But I wouldn't have it any other way. LBP brought me closer toward interest in a PS3, though I'm still a long way's off from getting one.
There's only two that I know of that can be considered fanatical. Quite a few that are indeed big fans though.
You said it, the age of the shooter is over in the west. It involves some degree of memorization, strategy, and patience. The last part being the downfall. I can't wait until korea, china and other markets mature more. They have such cultural tastes it would make for exciting games. Look at europe, and such excellent games from those countries. Croteam, etc. Once long ago, the mighty raresoft as well.
Well, I guess I've got a different definition of fanatical. Simply buying obscure games doesn't seem fanatical. A cab, posters, and thriving for that 1CC... seems a bit more fanatical to me. Of course, shelling out thousands for PCBs... It is not exactly thriving in Japan. There's only one company putting out really high quality on all fronts shooting games regularly, and that is clearly Cave. The rest are either too small/broke to invest in really good design (Milestone, Warashi) or don't really make such games on a regular basis (Treasure). I've not seen much, if anyting out of the west in ages that really gets me excited. Then again, not that much out of Japan does anymore either. This might bring back some good memories though.
