/So, I'm finally getting ready to hack my Xbox, and right now I can't upgrade the hard drive. Now, I plan to play a decent amount of games, so, I was wondering if it was possible to load games from the network, not FTP, but actually play them from your PC HDD. I googled and couldn't find anything about it, and I figured Hex would know :cool-new:
I've never actually tried it but as long as the .xbe is in a folder the xbox can access it should work. It should be easy enough to test out. Worst case scenario you'll just hang at a black screen and have to power cycle your xbox.
What Pikkon said. Although I've never even heard of someone wanting to do this before. Usually the other alternative would be to burn the game to a DVD or create a multigame disc on DVD9 media.
This is possible, I have done it on a softmodded console as well as on an xbox 360 XDK (not emulating DVD drive) - The games just run very laggy as networking is far slower than a disk/ HDD. If I can remember correctly, there used to be an app called connectX.xbe that would allow you to access shared folders from your PC's hdd.
ConnectX is only for Xbox 360 and it's a name the FSD devs gave to a hacked plugin from the XBox 360's XDK. I don't know if it's could be possible to stream game through the network on the original Xbox with Xbox Neighborhood feature. If I remember correctly, Xbox Neighborhood permitted file transfer while a game was running, you just need a debug bios and some files on your Xbox HDD. On the PC side, you need a Windows machine with this service installed. The tricky thing is that, when I was using it, it was only possible to browse file from the PC to the Xbox, it wasn't possible to do it the other way around. In order to make it work, you'd have to "push" the file over the network to the console as it request them. That's all a big hypothesis but you're welcome to tinker. Just find yourself a copy of the XDK and you'll be on your way to go.
I've asked the same question a few different times in a few different forums and the answer was always the same: it's not possible on the original xbox. The network link gets killed when you start a game. The original xbox can't mult taks, so it's not possible. That's what I've been told and nobody proved that's wrong.
Flash the debug bios, http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/debug-xdk.php http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/install-debug.php It is very possible
Well, not possible here. I have a 1.x with 512kb of rom for bios. I have flashed xecuter bios here with that soldering two points together hack. I'm amazed to see that this works )
Just use Phoenix Bios Loader to run the debug bios thats what I do and it works fine tho not having the extra RAM does cause problems with some beta's and anything multitasking really but I can RTH so I got what I wanted :3
