I have a Wireless Logitech Xbox Controller that doesn't want to connect to its receiver. I opened up the receiver and saw that the solder joints of the black wire and the ground wire are bridged. Are they supposed to be like that. I am trying to get this controller to work.

Black is usually the color used for a ground wire, so it should be fine. Red, green and white are power and data +/- but not necessarily in that order.

Yeah, but there is both a black wire and a ground wire (A.K.A. the thick, gray one.) I will take a picture if necessary.

I had this problem with mine where the L/R triggers wouldn't technically go down all the way unless you put some serious force on them. This was a problem in racing games (which take up over half my Xbox collection), where I wouldn't be going "full throttle" unless I was really pulling on the R trigger.

Loved the feel of it otherwise, though.

you could probably mod a nice rechargable battery into one of them taking up the space of the 4x AAA batteries would be even better,

on the original post, the problem may not be with the receiver but on the controller side, as this would get more wear / usage, i'd check the controller side first.

Indeed, most of the time, the receiver will sit still and almost never be touched, except to put in memory cards and Xbox Live Communicator. I would also look for a controller malfunction in the first place. Check voltage or any sign of desoldered components. In RF tech, sometimes only a small capacitor missing can cause total failure.
