I have one of the new Creative ZEN 8GB DAPs.. I give it a 4/5 at this moment. I can't separate albums by artist, only by playlist; the battery life sucks, and it powers on erraticly. Also, upon losing the cell phone that AT&T provided me earlier this year, I purchased a cheap, pay-as-you-go phone and just chucked in my SIM card and now I have a cheap replacement. It's pretty barebones.. good enough for what I need but I'm looking for something more. Something that combines them both. For about $250 or less. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9239 I was looking at this. Is there anything comparable to this out there already? (Don't say iPhone.) I'm willing to sacrifice screen resolution as long as the phone has expandable memory. I'm tired of the U.S.A. being 9001 years behind Europe and Asia in regards to cell tech. I just heard of this cell phone coming to Japan that had 480x856 resolution! (NTSC DVD size!!!) + all the usual features. Now, it may not even be necessary to have that many pixels at such a relatively small screen, but hot dang.. I'm pretty much inexperienced when it comes to phones. Someone guide me.
The N95 will do everything, and more! As will do any S60 nokia (N70, N73 etc.) All use SD cards of some variety (micro or mini) and are very decent phones with tons of features. Also, most modern Sony Ericssons will do it nicely - look at the walkman series for one that is specifically designed for music. I can't recommend any other manufacturers as I have no experience with them
I d propose the Sony Ericsson P1 (i) . It's a touch-screen smarphone, that unlike iphone is aimed at professionals and coders alike. It is quite distinct from pda-phones, thanks to its operating system and phone-centric functions. It has a 320x240 resolution screen and plenty of RAM (unlike the P990i which I have)
I vote for the N95, had it a few weeks now and loving it. Just get a case for it as its easily marked.
Heh, funny you fellows should say that, I'm torn between continuing my SE love and getting the P1i or going back to Nokia (perish the thought!) because the N95 is so damn seksi with its boatload of features...
the SE is more of a geek's phone in my view. It's quite easy to navigate yet powerful. You can get ass-loads of applications for it and it's relatively easy to code for. It's also fully compatible with the usual java crap. A touch screen is your best friend when you re about organizing information in your phone or managing your website via FTP for example. Additionally, the P1i includes Wifi which is a must for anyone who travels alot.
been thinking of getting one of those SE too.. always had those Motorola's (A925 and now A1000) and like them.. thought I'm thinking of trying something new especially something with WiFi
I'm in the exact same situation, actually. My company told me they are going to change my Nokia for a Blackberry Pearl. I'm actually trying to see if I can get another phone instead of the crackberry, like a W580i instead, or even a Moto A1200 which looks good too, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to choose which one. The P1i is nice indeed, but you cant get it with a plan in the States, which means you've to pay full unlocked price, which is around $450-$500 depending on where you buy it. The iPhone is crippled, and I mean Reeves-crippled! plus you've to pay the same MSRP of the P1i plus a 2-years butt-fucking plan:fresh: If you ask me stick to something like the W580i: is small, nice looking and is really good for both music and calls. Plus the build quality is above the average (wish I could say the same about all my Nokia phones). The upstage looks good too, plus is cheap, but I havent tested so dunno. Get one with a plan and buy a nice pair of BT headphones:thumbsup:
I have the N95 and i must say the battery life sucks but apart from that its a great phone but i think the new 8Gig version of it has better battery life you could ask around howard forums (google it) the people on there know a hell of alot about phones
The SE P1i has no issues with battery btw. I charge mine (P990i) every 2-3 days and I use it for audio and as a smart-phone throughout the day, including messaging, wifi, emails and calls. Batteries last more if you know how to treat them actually, so get yourself a graph for LiOn performance and charge cycles.
Battery life on 3g phones can be increased by switching to gprs instead of gprs + 3g. Nokia are rubbish if you let it try to talk 3g. I don't know what effect it has if you don't have 3g in your country at all ( i.e. america ).
