Ok, so I moved from the UK to Calgary Canada! I need to buy a new computer for cash as Paypal account is all messed up from moving country & other factors. Anyway, I'm sick of using this netbook for typing and stuff so I'm looking for a decent computer. I'm way out of touch with computers these days, so I'm looking for some advice on what to buy. I dont use a computer too tough, I'm not into pushing it hard graphically, its rare I play games these days on a PC. I use it more for streaming music & watching movies really. Anyway I saw this in Walmart http://www.walmart.ca/Canada-Electr...68054&departmentId=201&categoryId=678&tabId=1 Does it look like a decent spec computer for the price? Any help would be great, or suggestions of another computer supplier, as I am quite overwhelmed by how busy I've been moving country with my wife & 3 kids. Thanks for looking friends
Go to the local Apple Store and tell the very nice man you want one of the new Mac Minis that were released this week. Or even see if you can get an early 2009 model on clearence. There's absolutely no need for a horrible looking PC tower unit or Windows for what you're wanting to do. A nice tiny Mac Mini has more than enough power for use as a media centre.
oh for god sakes SD, stop being a damn fanboy. Yes, macs are good indeed, i owned one and i loved it, but windows 7 isn't as bad as they make it to be, you can do much more things, and if you build your own pc you can still make a bad ass config for alot cheaper.
I don't think he was intending on building one. The new Acers... I ordered a bunch when I worked at a Ford dealership for the service technitians, and they held up very well (in the dirty, grimy, dangerous service bays). That's about all I can say, though. I felt comfortable running them, and had planned on getting more if needed.
I think I'll go buy it. I'm not too fussed about having a Mac mini, but thanks for the suggestion. I have an Acer netbook which has lasted pretty well, so I guess I'm happy with the brand. Thanks.
buy a barebone, you can get really nice looking ASUS ones, then get a cpu , ram, dvd drive and hdd. If you ever want to play videos you can go ahead and buy a video card. look at this baby: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856101037 spend 100 on a c2d, 50 on hdd and 20 on dvd drive and you'll be able to upgrade it all in the future.
