My old phone is beat up and dead...well almost. The screen is scratched to oblivion, the star and 7 buttons don't work, and the hang-up button only works when it wants too. So I need a new phone, and i'm willing to pay what it takes to get the kind of phone I want. That kind of phone is:
    sexy
    decent games
    movies/music
sd card support (not necessary, but I have them lying around which would sort of save at least some money)
I guess what I am looking for is something like Yakumo's phone that has all those great games, and features, but I'm not sure that I can get that in the U.S. I was looking at this: http://tinyurl.com/llatk phone, but I wasn't so sure it would be compatible with my carrier (t-mobile). Can anyone give me suggestions on a phone that might be something I would want? Any sort of help would be much appreciated...

Why does it seem like nobody wants a phone that works like a phone anymore (i.e. has decent voice quality and coverage)?

Having said that, I would avoid anything that Verizon offers with any of its plans. Everyone I know that has a phone through them regrets it (phone quality, not service).

I see where you are coming from, but quality and coverage has been so good for me since i bought my first phone, that any increase in quality is negligible. It seems that phone quality has reached its peak, and for me any phone that I buy will be based on any extra features it has to offer me. (and how sexy it is. I'm shallow, I know.)

Voice quality also depends on your phone, too, you know. I have an LGCE500. It can record 12second movie clips as well as take pictures, it takes a micro SD card (I bought a 1gig stick for it for $40 @amazon w/ free shipping) for your MP3s. However, I don't think that you can use mp3s for ringtones unless you go thru your carrier. I've had it for over 3 months and I like it. Only paid $100 brand new even though it costs $300 at retail stores.

I currently have a Nokia 6600. Fantastic phone, but a bit knackered now. I'm looking at getting a Nokia N80, just needs to wait for a few more apps to be converted to become comnpatible with it. Take a look at the N80 (not sure on availability in the US at the moment though) and the N70 also.
They both run S60 so can run hundreds of bits of software, 2mp camera on the n70, 3mp on the n80, and the n80 also has wifi. They also both can take memory cards, but they aren't exactly SD, their some slightly odd smaller version of SD

Don't buy a slidephone. Don't know about the states and their popularity, but here they are quite popular and quite crappy. They always break, and after a while they ''slide'' too easily..

Damn, thats a shame as they are fine phones. Some of the newer Sony Ericcsons are also fine phones, personally I prefer the S60 nokia's though. There are always about 3 or 4 reviews of each phone when I google for them - such as infosyncworld, mobileburn and a few others which review a lot of but not all phones.

If your carrier is T-mobile get a MDA Vario smartphone. Sure it ain't pretty but it has all you want and more, windows mobile 5 which means tons of games and software , it plays mp3,divx,xvid etc..it has 11 mbit wifi, slide out qwerty keyboard, 320x240 pixel touchscreen, stereo speakers and mini sd-slot.

I've had mine for about 8 months now and it's the perfect travel companion and the phone side isn't bad either quality and reception wise ;-)

I am really hoping that I can find a phone thats really centered around gaming (that isn't the n-gage). The other things are really just bonuses, but when I saw a picture of that samsung phone playing raystorm...I was excited about finding a phone that could do something like that. Thanks for all the help you guys are giving me, and by the way, does anyone know if any korean phones would be compatible in the U.S.?

I wonder if european phones will start incorporating the QR Code. It's quite popular in Japan, from what I've heard and read. A neat feature if you ask me. No harm in having this onboard your phone.

    Here's a "special" sample.

That's a QR Code. You can find them on japanese websites mostly. They're coded with website adresses for the most part, so you can just scan it in and skip all the typing if you want to access, let's say a wap / imode section of the site from your phone.

There are programs that decode this using the camera feature of the phone. If you own a UIQ, Windows or Symbian phone with a camera, you can just install a free app, and you're all set. Japanese phones nowdays have this feature built in.

I made this one containing a little message to anyone who can decode these. A code like that can contain up to 250 characters. 2D barcodes are becoming an industry standard, since you can put so much information into that. You can find these on labels of your clothes, probably in your phone alongside the serial number and souch...

It's really neat. These four squares are the points of reference for the scanner, so that it knows what's where.

Hmm, never seen QR codes before. Honestly though, how many people are going to want to be able to scan these things?

On a side note, I think that I have an idea for a new Qublix puzzle...

Like I said before, it's more of a standard when it comes to industrial tagging. Simply because of the amout of data you can fit on one of these. I've seen it on lottery tickets too. When you win, they scan it and give you the cash.

As for mobile phone use, when I first found out about it, I thought it was kind of useless, but that enirely depends.

I was at the arcade playing Ghost Squad and after I finished, the game gave me a code. One alphanumerical, and one QR code. You have to input the alphanumerical one on the games' website. If I had a phone that could scan the thing, I could upload my score on the spot by simply scanning the screen. I uploaded photos from that day on Klov.com
