good call, sorry cant help you though as I only have a MCD2, with that said your best option is ebay or something and get a whole new console as the MCD1 are sort after and cost a bit alone. Its very rare to find just the Main boards.

The repair work btw doesn't seem to hard, what you could do is buy a new one and sell the faulty one as spares or repairs explaining the issue, im sure it will sell to someone that can repair it as many here on this forum can.

yea thought of that but the cost for a new one are somewhat high, especially when living solely of study financing.

Paying for shipping both ways + the repair is likely going to cost you more.

Actually, I've looked into that. shipping to somewhere in europe is on avrage here 20 euro back and forth (going from dutch rates), so lets say 25 depending on country and their shipping cost. And say +-10 euro for repairs makes it 35 euros total.

Getting a sega/megaCD model 1 in the Netherlands on average runs close to 100 euro, because Sega wasn't that popular here but now gains popularity, and shipping from another country regularly runs for about 30 to 40 euros at least due to the size of the megaCD. Add to that the cost of megaCD that I'd likely only get part of back. Makes it that it's, on average that is, cheaper to repair or replace than buy a new system.

Not being funny but I think the repair will cost you more than 10Euro More like 50Euro which if the repairer is good will include full cap replacements a proper batter replacement and the obvious track repairs that are needed

its cheaper to get another one you can get them for around 50-80Euros if you bid and don't go over your budget, eventually you will get one cheap. then you can recover some of your cost by selling your faulty one, just explain the fault as you have done on the prior thread and the seller will be confident that its al that is at fault and feel confident in its repair

you can get back about 20-30 Euros

35 euros total, including 2 lots of international shipping and the repair?

I think you have vastly underestimated.

The caps I all replaced myself a week or so ago, so no need for that I reckon. And I'm well aware that battery is a bit "getto-style" to say the least, but no real need to replace that as it does work.

50 is excessive IMHO but I might underestimate the cost, but even then it still is around that same price:
    50+25 = 75 euro
    65+35 = 100 euro, 100-25 for resell = 75 euro

the guys here are very knowledgeable in what they do and your other thread they said that the caps leaked, im starting to wonder is it more sinister than a leaked cap as you saying you replaced caps a week ago and new caps don't leak so fast

what battery are you using, you are aware that only a ML2016 battery will do other wise it can cause the battery or caps to leak prematurely or it could be something else that has killed the board

I'm aware that only a ML will do. I just checked, because I didn't put in that battery myself but was put in before I bought it, but apparently it does need at least a battery replacement.
But I've replaced the caps after they said that, because I wanted to try the easy things first.

When caps leak, they are corrosive. He has damaged traces, just replacing the caps isnt going to fix it (which he did AFTER it stopped working). Which is why its still not working after a recap.

I think you are assuming he recapped it, then they started leaking - which isnt what happened.

ok I see so the pics you posted a prior to the caps being changed

I posted a thread about sega cd modding and left a link for where to buy the correct battery, mine arrived and I fitted it, was a perfect match

it may be a little cheaper say about 30E then to fix it and change battery

from what I know bad_ad84 is the best man for the job but he is retired from what I know.

EDIT: just seen bad_ads replies, sorry my posts now don't make sence as I didn't see bad_ad post and posted my 2 bits worth, sorry for repeatin a lot of what you already said bad_ad
