    Hey,

Love these boards and all of the exclusive knowledge exchanged here. I live in the US and have a NTSC-J PS2-50000 model that I would like to run Free McBoot from. I have had no luck with any exploits getting it to install and would gladly pay for someone to send me a memory card with FMCB for Japanese PS2 installed. Or any other help/suggestions in getting it running would be great.

I have installed FMCB on 3 PS2s already, so I have done it before, but the Japanese PS2 has been impossible to crack for me. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. SR

I posted a link to the guy though PM for an file he can install using the FMCB installer in an USA PS2 and it SHOULD work on any PS2 console provided that he copy it to the proper place in the *SAME* memory card for a Japanese console.

    Explaining:

    BADATA-SYSTEM (take files from here)
BIDATA-SYSTEM (and paste here for it to work on a JPN PS2)

Here it is. Found it at a second-hand store. One of the employees there lived in Japan for a couple of years and brought it back to the states. I picked it up for $80 in trade. Again thanks for all the help!

The file is copyrighted. So interested people need to PM me for link.

Edit: FMCB INSTALLS made from this file are effectively region free...

I'm worried about the forum having trouble with the file, not claiming to own the file (which I do not)...

So relax. It's fine to point the file to other people. Spread the love.

I only posted that, to in case this tread stop getting posts but people find it on search, I can give them directions on how to obtain the file in question.

By the way, that file is an edited version of the SCPH-7700x DVD player launcher KELF for Japan region. It was choosen due to it's small size. Small enough to not clutter the memory card and big enough to hold the FMCB payload.

After it loads and is not modified, it supposedly build an new DVD player KELF from bits of data into an encrypted ROM filesystem called "EROM".

When you put it on the INJECT folder of FCMB it partially unpacks it, retrieves it's internal header, patches the compressed section with new data (FMCB payload/boot program) and fixes the data section checksum.

This one had it's header field for region limits modified and after that the header was re-hashed.

    That's why it works anywhere.

If you're curious, look on the internet for DVDPLJ (76kb) then do a byte compare with this one...

is this method better or indifferent from the UNofficial FMCB 1.8C installer?

and is it any better then a PC based install with a SONY PS2 memory card adapter for PS2 memory cards?

if anyones interested, you can install FMCB using the usb ps2 memory card adapter they released for the PS3, someone released drivers for it

I did it so I can vouch that it does work.
