Hello,I would like to try making a GB/GBC flashcart to learn a bit about the hardware side of GB homebrew dev and while I have found several well documented resources to make such carts, I can't find many lists of cart guts (ie, telling which game contain which Memory Bank Controller, how much RAM, etc).Is there such a maintained, actively or not, list somewhere?...Or do I have to buy random carts and see inside if I can't find or do not want or cannibalize the usual suspects (for instance Zelda DX).Thanks!
If you want to build a diy flashcart you should start with a pokemon yellow/red/blue game, they have everything you need. More info here: http://reinerziegler.de/download/MBC5_Cart.pdf and here: http://www.reinerziegler.de/gbcmbc.txt
Thanks, but I really wanted to know what other options I have so I can try to fin the cheapest alternatives. However, it turned out my searching skills were not that good when I looked for such information, after trying harder just now, I did find the list I was looking for. It is here. Also it looks like it was generated from a ROM collection, so I guess every ROM dump gives away information about the cart needed to make it work... I guess?... Anyway, I will try to find some of these carts now...
You can maybe remove the existing ROM and add a socket to an existing GBC game with a clock chip (and a battery) so that you can remove your EEPROM/Flash with ease.
I remember looking at those instructions and wondering the same thing. (I mean who want to kill a zelda or pokemon game?). I remember the Hello Kitty games in Japan being perfect for this. and bought like 4 but haven't done anything with them yet. They seem to be on this list here. http://sega4ever.power-heberg.com/tutodedev/Wonderswan/Gameboy_Database.xlsx
