Hey guys, I was curious what the best modchip and set up would be to make my dreamcast completely region free without the use of a boot disc, I have a lot of pal and jp imports I love playing and would like a proper way to play them without the use of a bootloader, any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It has been a few years since I used my DC, but if I remember correctly, you did not need a boot disc anymore. In fact, I seem to remember never actually using one, just burning the games and they would boot by themselves.

All my imports are genuine, though. I don't have a way to copy the GD rom to make backups of my copies, and would prefer being able to use the original discs.

If you don't mind a bit more soldering you can replace the main BIOS chip with a region free modded one, or piggyback it and have the option to swap between them. Plenty of these chips for sale in the marketplace here.

Alternatively there's the 4 wire modchip if you can find one, older versions need you to restart the console each time to switch regions.

I don't mind soldering, Thanks for the tip, sounds like I need to score one of the bios chips in the marketplace!
