Now, I have long said that the industry may benifit quite a bit from some regulations on the ESRB. However, this statement got to me:

Wait a second, how would THAT solve a damn thing? It's not like drugs or alcohol where you can sneak it, parents just can't ignore a huge image on a TV screen of a thug beating up a hooker (In surround sound, no less). Seriously, politicians: the only fucking parents that complain about this shit are the ones that don't even have kids who play games (or don't even have kids), other politicians, and strict soccer moms. You want to know why little billy got a copy of San Andreas for christmas instead of Barney Molests little children? Because they are the ones fucking buying it for them.

God, I hate Hillary Clinton (Too bad she isn't like bill: not giving a shit), and Liberman. Makes me want to turn Republican sometimes hearing this crap...

I think they have a point, but the problem isn't w/ the kids or parents. I don't see how kids should be able to buy a violent game if they can't buy a violent movie. Seems like a double-standard. They should just enforce the fucking law and be done with it. It'll happen sooner or later, and I for one, and sick of paying politicians to bitch about it.

Yeah, but you arent a kid, anymore. ;)

My Mom barred me from playing any game with guns in it after columbine. Even Armored Core was off limits because the Robot had a freakin gun. It fuckin sucked.

  5. It all comes down to parental responsibility - taking part in your kids' lives so you know what they're playing and enforcing proper discipline. It's not that hard. Gamestop, EB Games, and most other retailers already have policies prohibiting the sale of M-Rated games to minors, so it's quickly becoming a matter of beating a dead horse. No amount of legislation will increase parental responsibility - that starts in the home.

And really, why don't people get their heads out of their asses about games? Why is there no public outcry about kids watching R-rated movies? It's the same thing - the sale/viewing is prohibited at retail outlets, there's an (arguably less informative) voluntary rating system in place, but kids still manage to get their hands on them. What's the difference?

Even if parents don't buy kids those games, chance is if they already have a modded console they will get the "forbidden fruits" from the internet, or do it like in the ole' days and play it on some friends' (with less restrictive parents) house. If there's a will, there's a way.

They key here is to abolish the current retarded rating systems by something that really gives out the whole picture. Both Jedi Academy and NHL 2004 share the "violence" PEGI descriptior for some reason - why not giving a three colour code to each, and change it according to each case? Not to mention using ages to split things over looks something a quack shrink would do - I've seen 10 year olds with far more maturity than guys around my age.

Of course, for that one would assume anyone cares about them. I'd bet most of the whining parents just gave the kids a console to keep them quiet and save on babysitting, and then let the things go. Heck, my mother still occasionally asks me about games I buy.

lol, it all comes down to irresponsible parenting, hell i remember a time when simpsons and married with children as well as beavis and butt head were considered extremely vulgar and over the edge, now adays they appear extremely tame to what is out there now, you should see the stuff that comedy central gets away with, its crazy, but hell half the time its only after stuff thats well known, yet realistcly are these people just trying to get attention, or are they not parenting their kids properly and feel that this will solve it? Cause i got news for you its true about the R rated movies, parents sometimes take their kids to see films they should be seeing at their age, point being, there so many other extreme things otu there, that since videogames arent liked by most parents, its an easy target to go after, no question about it.

Family Guy did an ode to indecency song a few weeks back. It was funny, but not for kids by a longshot.
