http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/22/news_6129609.html whats funny is the fact that they note hes an anti game activist, after grand theft auto and now this, i cant wait to see what will be the next game that gets picked, meanwhile ea really seems like theyre going to fight this one.
That’s Ridiculous. It's obvious that this guy has a personal vendetta against games, and he is attacking whatever he can with outlandish claims and stupid accusations.
Yeah, this guy is a very strange character. He is one of the people that want to ban any game that is violent, or portays some sort of idea/ideoligy he doesn't agree with at the time. I'm hoping the industry realizes that self policing isn't a 'green light' to put out anything and give it a rating that doesn't mean shit. I think this guy had his Atari taken away as a child, and now thinks no child should have video games. :smt042 ^_^_^
Have you ever looked into how a game gets rated by the ESRB? There are more stringent guidelines for game ratings than there are for movies specifically because of the kind of crap that "crusader" politicians like Lieberman and shameless video game bigots like Thompson feed the public on a regular basis. Jack Thompson has flat out lied on occasion to get more publicity for his witch hunts. I am tired of the "won't someone think of the children" attitude that this country has. In this case, the only people who need to be concerned with the protection of the children are the obviously neglectful parents/guardians. Every game that is released to retail has a clear and consistently placed rating on it with specific content categories listed. You sure as hell cannot say that about any other entertainment industry. There is nothing more that the gaming industry can do. It is up to the parents to make sure that their little brats don't get ahold of the newest "Disembowler 4: Deluxe Edition" game without their permission. Any parent who uses the excuse that "the kids will get it somehow, and I can't stop it from happening" needs to immediately lose custody of their children. The only government action that I could support is making the ESRB ratings legally enforced like the MPAA movie ratings are. No banning games with violence towards police officers. No banning games that show more than a square inch of bare flesh. Just card people who are buying M/AO rated games to make sure that they are old enough. And I hate The Sims. Just think what my rant would have been like if it was a game that I liked...
I'm not sure that the government should get involved in game ratings. The ESRB is ok at best, but really needs to be reworked. The ratings don't really mean shit, because God of War has just as much if not more sexual content then GTA:SA. I haven't heard GoW mentioned once, by any of the people fighting to limit the access to questionable content. It doesn't matter how good or enforced the ratings system, if the parents of the children who are too young to play it aren't bothering to see what their kids actually are playing. ^_^_^
I say we kill this bitch :die Anyways, "won't someone think of the children"?? Well, then stop spending the national budget on whores and start protecting your national laws against exploitation. Sometimes i want to kill this god damn politicians..........
Is all the crap games have been getting lately caused by the same guy? I think Mortal Kombat Deception is next. Halo 2 might get picked, because it got #1 violent game on some soccer mom magazine. My mom read it, and asked me how bad Halo 2 was. I said, occasionally you see blood. Thats about it. My mom wouldnt let me get games with guns in them for a few months after Columbine. -_- Destroy all humans might get taken off the shelves and given a name change or something, too. That name is just INVITING these politicians...
Some of it. This isn't the first time he has spurted out bullshit about games (Although most people don't pay attention to him). He is one of those lawyers who will find anything remotely contriversal and sue the hell out of it. So yeah, he's as low as you can go with lawyers.
Him and that jackass Lt. Col. Dave Grossman (the guy who came up with the term "murder simulators"). Oh, and if you can't tell, this is a touchy subject for me and I do take personal offense to the comments of idiots like these. I WANT to decapitate, dismember, disembowl and otherwise de- and dis- video game characters. It's theraputic. :smt096
My take as a parent is as long as the video game manufatures tell me on the back contains heavy violance ect ect than as a parent I can make a choice. Also, if i question the game I can do research through the web. In todays world it seems like most parents just do not want to take the responsibility that they need to to be good parents and as such want all these stupid rules. In the end take an interest in what your kids are doing and understand what they want and the majority of problems are eliminated.
the sad thing is that the industry has changed a bit, games now are considered mainstream instead of "toys" classification, but the thing is most parents do not realize this, and take a very lazy aditude twords it as well do not bother to check the raiting of the game serisouly at all, i mean theres plenty of r rated movies that are easily sold to minors that contain stuff thats a hell of alot worse then pretty much most any m rated game, yet since movie raiting are tooken more seriously, they actually bother to restrict what their kids can watch, but this is mostly due to the fact that parents actually watch these movies and make sure to check the raiting to see if there kids can see it, but sadly they do not play games and they feel that they are still somewhat toy games. Plus you have people like this guy who exploit the truth and at all do not bother to clairfy for uneducated parents that in order to access this stuff you must have a patch if its a pc, or a cheat device such as action replay in order to play it, in fact for me i felt at times vice city was more darker then this game. But of course this all happend caue of political issues, as well as rockstars mistake to fully take out the code in order for it to be fully inaccessable. But of course its a common mistake for it to happen, plus think about it, they probably at the last minute decided to take it out to avoide the raiting possibly and felt it would be easier just to block access instead of fully take it out, which would take time and theyd probably have to check the code again to see if it does not condratict with something else. I mean this was just a rumor long ago and before that no one had a clue that it was in there. I mean rare thought they took out all of cidal but low and behold years later hackers found it within the game.
Yeah sorry `bout that, my Alter Ego, Gunther The "Mystical space Nazi" taken control of my mind :smt096
Ooooh it's the same guy I e-mailed and beat down on GTA hehe, after that his case mysteriously disappeared -_- I guess I should send him a similar mail about the sims?
If I was the CEO of Take Two and this video game crap gets hauled into congressional hearings my opening statement would go something like this. "Distinguished members of congress and especially the distinguished junior senator of New York. It's called the first amendment and my company won't explain or apologize for using it. You can all go and fuck yourselves and while you're off doing that we'll settle this in court. Thank you" The rest of hearings I'd just blast them for being a bunch of hypocrites while trying to sneak in as many blowjob and cigar jokes as humanly possible.
Doin that you give them more reasons to blame on you What I`ll do is set a BIG number of counter-ads to this shit, showing how all games are rated correctly and that is up to the parents to control what their kids are playin. The point would be to create a wave of self-critisism agaist parents, so they can no longer blame the games about everything they fuck up little assholes do It worked with the recicle campaigns in the 90s, and the tobacco ones too :smt023
You know, if I were to choose a babysitter for my kids, and then everyone of the babysitters had their characteristics written on the back of their shirts, I'd damn well read the labels and choose wisely. Parents want games to babysit their kids the way the previous generation wanted TV to babysit theirs. Too lazy for parenting? Sure, get the brat GTA if that's what'll make him go away. Then pretend to be outraged and a good parent, like the politician on TV says. Pathetic. And then the politician gets a chance to use the hysteria of the Media agenda to gain a common enemy, and voila, we have outrage and manipulation about a scapegoat! These people were the ones who REQUESTED for there to be an ESRB back in 1994 - and now they damn well better start learning how to read the god damn ratings instead of blaming game manufacturers for their contents. Really, I fucking hate irresponsible parents that want the government to police everyone else because they're too lazy to think and too narrowminded to believe they're wrong. Man, does "mandatory sterilization" have a nice ring to it or what...? (This comment is a joke, not to be taken seriously. Ever. It means for people to just have children if they're responsible enough, dammit) JTI2K is right. If the government really wants to actively "think of the children", then make sure the education, welfare and healthcare system works enough for them to be healthy, educated, and have enough opportunities in life. The way society is right now, Violent videogames don't seem to be a worthwile problem compared to many others. And yeah, we can fight this thing, being active in letting our congresses know that the pundits are not the only ones with a voice, and making ourselves heard in a peaceful but firm and well-argumented manner. This didn't really happen in Mexico (There's one state that pretty much decides which games to downright ban, and there's, I think, a priest and a government official who chooses them - but that's one in 31) - but if it did, I'd at least be writing a letter to the newspaper and my congressman, to start.
