I have a SHARP TV that has a missing remote. Thing is, I contacted SHARP and there useless because they do not have the schematics or IR frequency noted down. So, how would I got about trying to get the thing to switch over to AV mode? Thought about getting a universal remote, but it may not have the code needed for it. Really want to get it running on my Megadrive / Genesis and PlayStation, because it is the only TV I have ever known or seen to have S-Video as well as SCART in Australia. And no. There is no AV button on the TV and I have done a complete Google search for the model number :fresh:
Why not try EBay or something? When I needed a remote for a CRT I bought used I found one on Yahoo Auctions.
I'd go with a universal remote. I haven't used one in years, but from my experience the manuals usually contain at least a few different codes for each brand, and its not like Sharp is a super obscure one. maybe order a cheap one from dealextreme? Oh and you've probably done this, but have you tried pressing channel down towards zero? I found a 42" plasma in the bin cupboard the other day and I couldn't find input selection in the menu and it turns out that did the trick. had forgotten tvs used to work that way
Tried eBay... I may as well try a universal remote. I tried going past zero. Nothing. Just loops... Thanks for your help ^_^
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remotes/universal-remotes/devices/6812 I picked up the Harmony 300i for my old crt and it works great. I can enter service mode and do exactly what I could do with my old remote.
Wal-Mart always carry generic chinese universal remotes. So does Radio Shit. Are there Australian equivalents of that?
Try going through all the menus using the buttons on the TV again because there probably is a way to access it from those. Sometimes it is obscure but I have yet to see a TV where you can't access AV/AUX from the panel. What is the Model #?
It's not uncommon, I've seen a few where a remote is required. The function keys on a universal remote (with the correct code), will usually work. If there's no code for your specific model, but you know the model number of the chassis, you can usually cross-reference it to find other TV's using the same one (even non-Sharp if it's an OEM). The codes for one of those is bound to work.
Even if the universal remote doesn't have the code in the manual, they always have a way to search through pretty much every frequency until you find the right one. I managed to get a universal remote which was made in 1997 to operate a freeview box made last year
I got a cheap universal for my son's LG TV. None of the supplied codes worked, but the search function did. Attached the manual so you can read up on the search function.
Pin8 of scart auto switches the tv to av mode. You shouldn't need a remote to get to av with most consoles. Just plug it in and turn it on.
Some tvs have a button combination to get into menus/av mode....for example on my samsung CRT I press both volume buttons at the same time.
This only works on psp-100X models with ir port on top, and with a specific custom firmware. At my local flea markets they have boxes and boxes of older and newer remotes for anywhere between 25cents and $5. could try that, if they have flea markets in Australia, I honestly dont know.
The regular chinese universal remote will probably work, as others said, using the auto-search/scan function on the remote will do the trick.
Tried that. Even with 7.5 volts to the switching pin and ground on the SCART chassis. Nothing. Screen goes black on every channel, but no picture.
7.5V isn't enough for switching - it needs 9.5-12V to switch. 7.5 V might put it into 16:9 mode if supported, but most televisions need the higher voltage to switch. The answer is buy a replacement remote - either OEM or a universal remote. Any slightly decent remote (e.g. One For All) should have an AV switch.
OK I will give it 11 volts and see what happens... *EDIT* Nothing. Will not force it into 'SCART' mode.
