Hi, Long time lurker posting here for the first time =) I’ve been doing some research into the cancelled game ‘Lord of the Rings: Treason of Isengard’ for the PS2 and Xbox. It was going to be a direct sequel to the PS2 game ‘Fellowship of the Ring’, which was based on the LOTR books rather than the films. Treason was cancelled in 2003, however I’ve found a couple of mentions of a demo disc for the game. The LOTR Wiki provides no source, but mentions that “demo discs of the game still exist.†(http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings:_The_Treason_of_Isengard) My second, equally dubious source is ‘A Kid’s Review’ on Amazon from November 2003 (http://www.amazon.com/The-Lord-Rings-Isengard-Playstation-2/dp/B00008KTTV/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top). It states that their friend gave them a demo disc and that they were really excited for the game to be released. Nowadays I wouldn’t even consider a source like this, but it is contemporary to the game so I thought it was worth mentioning. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows about the demo disc that contained Treason of Isengard, and could give me more information. Or if anyone knows where I could download the demo, please let me know. I've asked on a couple of other forums so far, but haven't gotten any responses. I’d really appreciate any new information! Thanks in advance =D
It's certainly obscure, isn't it! Regardless, thanks for viewing the topic everyone =D I've been conducting some more searches - just to see if I can find any other mention of a demo existing (just being able to prove that it did would be great). I also trawled through a few Lord of the Rings message boards from the time. However, I'm really not stumbling upon anything. There wasn't even much discussion about the game in general, let alone a demo. The only worthwhile thing I've found is the name of the music director for the game (I cannot find any other information about who worked on it): http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/131243/interview_with_chance_thomas_game_.php Although he doesn't actually list Treason of Isengard on his website, this interview took place before the game's cancellation, so I'd say it's accurate. If you use the Way Back Machine to return to October 2003, you can find some of his audio demos for "Vivendi-Universal Games' Lord of the Rings series". While you cannot actually listen to them, it's interesting to note that two of the tracks are called 'The Elves Return to the Sea' and 'The Battle of Pelennor Fields'. Both of these events are from the final part of the trilogy - Return of the King. Now, he also worked on the War of the Ring and Middle-Earth Online games. However, Pelennor isn't in the former, as far as I can tell, and the latter was only early in development - even all these years later Lord of the Rings Online is still not quite up to Return of the King. This has me wondering - was Vivendi already preparing a third Lord of the Rings action game, based on the books? Just idle speculation, but it's curious at least
Just thought I'd come back and give this a quick bump, just in case (sorry about the triple-posting!) =)
