Hey Everyone, Does anyone use Lotus notes? Does anyone know how to run a set of rules against a folder which already has existing email in it? I have no idea how Lotus notes works, as I've always used other email clients and this problem is driving me up the wall. I have so many emails pooling in my inbox because rules don't run, and I can't get them to run on existing email ether!
I use it everyday at work. I hated it at first as I'd always been used to outlook but now Ive got used to it I think its a good system. Outlook feels very out dated to me now. Anyway, i'm not sure about your problem but our Lotus Notes team is in the office next door at work (yes we have a Lotus Notes support team) so i'll ask them your question tomorrow. If you could provide any further details that could help that would be good. Ive never tried to apply rules to a folder.. I'm not even quite sure what you mean by that
Awsome Rupert! I'm glad I'm not the only one who used to hate it. The only diffrence is that I'm still not convinced its better! Well anyway, here is the full scoop. I'm using Lotus notes 7, and I have a complicated set of rules that puts my emails (as they arrive) into diffrent folders based on who sent them, and what content they have. Ie. Spam goes into one folder, Software updates another, etc. So anyway, since I need to connect to work to get emails, my machine isn't on all the time. So when I connect to the server, it starts replicating and then I get a bunch of emails in my inbox. The thing is, non of those emails gets filtered according to the rules I set. It seems like my client must be active the moment I get the new messages for the rules to kick in. But whats even more strange, is that once mail has reached the inbox, there is no way to manually kick off the rules and get it to start sorting them into folders. In outlook you could always "run rules against folder" but in Lotus Notes, I have no idea how that works or what to do. So basicly, how my inbox is pooling and pooling more emails and there is no way to sort them into the folders as per the rules I setup. Fustrating and strange! Hope this gives you enough to tell your support team, because all the people I've asked don't know anything about lotus notes.
right, that makes sence. I'll run it by them tomorrow. I don't bother with rules I Just wait untill ive got a spare 30 minutes and sort all my mail into folders. So basically what your saying is.. you have set some rules up that worked fine wilst you were logged in but the next day the mails have got stuck in limbo wilst you have been logged out.. now they cant obbay the rules you have set and also you cant take the rules away.. are all your mails now just lining up in your inbox? or physically out or reach?
Well, to keep things simple you can simply say the rules appear to be randomly enforced and if it happens to not work, there is no way to take existing unread mail in a folder and run the rules against them.
Ok, so i asked the guy I know in the Lotus Notes Support team at work and he said it's a common problem on Notes the rules not working correctly. He advised that you should be able to go on the IBM website and download and run an 'agent' that can repair the issue. Ive checked on there myself but couldnt find exactly what he was getting at. Allthough there does seem to be alot of support tools.
